Regardless of who may be right or wrong on the current Trump/Bush keeping America safe debate, the bottom line is whose policies would you rather have in place going forward and which will keep America safer? Trump's deport and secure the border policy or Bush's amnesty and open borders?
I think envy and jealously plays a part. That and hate turns into resentment. In many ways it looks like disappointment for McCain and Romney losing being taken out on Trump.

That’s as good an explanation as any. I’ve just never seen a true patriot, a man with a profound and prominant reputation for loving his country, trashed in the way Trump is being trashed.
It is as absolute truth as you will find outside of the doctrines of the Catholic Church. Ronald Reagan was a conservative Democrat who became a Republican by 1960 or 1961 at the age of about 50 or so. Then he governed as a conservative governor of California for eight years. By the time he was president, he’d been a Republican 20 years. The liar trump supported the kenyan antichrist in 2008, endorsed Porkulus in 2009, and then endorsed Obama care in 2010.
He’s still repeating liberal lies against Gov. Walker and President Bush. He sounds like Richard Trumka or Michael Moore.
