Staplers, rulers and grade books are classic items teachers take to school, but 20 Utah teachers could be carrying a more unexpected tool in the coming months a gun.
During the Utah Education Association break Friday, the Utah Shooting Sports Council offered a free concealed weapons class structured specifically for teachers and others working within schools. The class involved discussion, demonstration and practice scenarios in safe gun use in school environments.
After the instruction, participants could pay a $49 fee and submit an application for a concealed carry permit to the Department of Public Safety.

That might work in Utah, but in places like the Bronz, Southside Chicago, or South LA, as soon as the students found out about it, eventually they would jump the teacher, and you can imagine the rest of the story.
That would be a requirement to earn your gang membership.
No, the parents who care about their kids will pull them out of the gov’t indoctrination centers and homeschool.

Because the 2a says:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed, after you pay $49.
Is that zip 10452?

The permit is for concealed. The stats showed that states which allowed concealed carry had certain types of crime go down. One could reasonably argue that such was true because criminals didn’t know if their potential victim may be armed. The same concept would hold true if a wanna be mass killer had to wonder if the teachers in the targeted school may shoot back. There might even be strongly anti-gun teachers, but if they kept their mouth shut about their views, the potential killer wouldn’t know that teacher was unarmed. Concealed carry laws have a psychological advantage.
i suppose this is a big deal BUT numerous instructors have been offering free CCW license classes for teachers in Colorado for years.
i would presume a requirement would be for a level 2 or 3 holster so no one, say a student, could just walk up and grab the gun. i think this is prudent for this situation. i carry a level 2 when i hike because i am more concerned with the gun slipping out if i fall down a hill than needing the extra second it takes the “unlock” the holster. my EDC IWB holster is the usual friction only.
i am all for volunteer teachers to be allowed to conceal carry in the classroom. my stipulations would be a legal class, additional training beyond the CCW class, a walk through to determine backstops, and a shooting test. personally i think every CCW holder should have to do this but i would never openly admit that in a debate with a gungrabber. the school could split the cost of the training and cover liability for insurance purposes.
just my opinion but i think some CCW folks don’t take their responsibility serious enough. having a gun in a situation is not enough.
I disagree and I bet I won't be the only one. Having a gun is the first step and it puts you miles ahead of anybody that doesn't have one. With a gun, your chances for success have gone from zero to at least 50%, likely better.
Would more training increase your chances even more, maybe even improve the chances of others due to better tactics? Could be but it won't be the same level of increase from just the act of having the gun available.
Which their respective schools should pick up without question.

Meanwhile, California just banned all CCW license holders from carrying on school grounds. You know, those people who have been background-checked, trained and who might just be able to stop a mass shooting. I wonder which state a school shooter would more likely choose to rampage in?
