ROCKUMENTARY: OCTOBER 17, 1961

First it was Castro 1, Kennedy 0. After the fiasco at the Bay of Pigs, Kennedy got out of a political mess by flashing his famous wit. A lesser man would have been impeached. Then it was Krushchev 1, Kennedy 0 after the Vienna summit. Of course, the press wasn’t going to let their hero go down.

Cue the Rockumentary theme on Turntable #1!

(This was a backup band at Motown that consisted of the Funk Brothers and pickup musicians from the Detroit Symphony.)

The San Remo Golden Strings: “Festival Time”

#10: Bob Moore: “Mexico”

This was the single that inspired Herb Alpert to found the Tijuana Brass, and it was written by Boudleaux Bryant, best known for his songs written for the Everly Brothers. But who remembers Bob Moore today?

Moore played bass, led an orchestra and was voted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. He is best known as a session musician who worked with Elvis, Pat Boone, Roy Orbison and Brenda Lee. This was his only success on the charts.
