Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe is outlawing the open carry of guns in some state-owned buildings and pushing for tighter gun control measures.
McAuliffe signed an executive order Thursday at the Capitol setting up a task force aimed at more robust prosecution of gun crimes. The order also establishes a statewide tip line to report gun crimes, and orders state police to request a trace of every gun involved in a crime in Virginia.
U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine and Attorney General Mark Herring joined the governor, along with parents of victims killed in gun-related crimes. That included Andy and Barbara Parker, the parents of Alison Parker, who was shot and killed in August.
McAuliffe has been an outspoken advocate for tighter gun control measures, but has failed to get those efforts past the Republican-controlled General Assembly.

Sue him for violation of our civil right to bear arms.
Pass the popcorn
PFFFFT! HAHAHAHA! My neighbor is a forensic scientist for the county. She does a lot with firearm "fingerprinting" and tracing of crime guns, but they could never trace EVERY gun used in a crime.
Well, really what he’s doing is just setting up some more bureaucracy to enforce laws that are already on Virginia’s books, thus adding to the State Police’s workload.
Attention crazies, government buildings in Virginia invite you to do that voodo that you do so well.
Nothing like a politician compounding tragedy with stupidity.
Yep, there’s no way that the State Police can possibly do a trace on EVERY gun used in EVERY crime in the state.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but zero mass killings were committed by a killer open-carrying a firearm. Banning open-carry will ensure that the next mass killer need not fear encountering armed victims.
If we continue to let these people rule us via executive orders, then that is what they are going to do.
The choice is to let him get away with it to fight him 100% of the time for every inch to the point that he gives up, much like the GOP has given up.
This is a law that will not be enforced, until, Soviet style, they are trying to get you into custody and need something convenient to charge you with.
Why all the guff?..Just outlaw outlaws from owning illegal firearms and post strongly worded letters explaining the consequences should they commit a crime with said firearms.
oh yeah, like criminals are gonna follow new laws...
I'm sure the gangstas are going to turn in their homeys.
But just to be PC let's pit neighbor against neighbor.
Within 30 days of the date of this Executive Order, the Director of the Department of General Services (DGS) shall issue guidance prohibiting carrying weapons openly in offices occupied by executive branch agencies.
I further order the Director of DGS, within 30 days of the date of this Executive Order, to propose regulations to ban the carrying of concealed weapons in offices occupied by executive branch agencies, unless held by law enforcement, authorized security, or military personnel authorized to carry firearms in accordance with their duties.
They voted for him...they deserve him.
How dense can one get? [rhetorical} I suppose it’s that dense.[literal]
i doubt he has constitutional authority to do it.
I didn’t.
