Did you mean “Sexting” :o)
.
A modern sextant has an attachment.
An artificial horizon is useful when the horizon is invisible, as occurs in fog, on moonless nights, in a calm, when sighting through a window or on land surrounded by trees or buildings. Professional sextants can mount an artificial horizon in place of the horizon-mirror assembly. An artificial horizon is usually a mirror that views a fluid-filled tube with a bubble.
If I remember correctly the Navy planes were P-3s used for ASW patrols against the Reds in the 70s through the 90s
There are many references available by googling “latitude by Polaris”.

Thanks you guys......
I have some reading to do before transmitting to my friend
Army vessels only have three departments, deck (deck apes) they are seamen, signalmen, quartermasters and navigation officers. Engine (snipes) are enginemen, electricians, electronic technicians etc. The third department is the stewards (cooks).
This is the reason Army crews are much smaller than Navy. An example would be the 143 ocean tugs we had back in the 60s, we had a crew of 36. The Navy had a crew of over 50 on identical tugs.
>> Did you ever learn the whole Sphore? <<
Tried, but failed!
And FWIW, I could copy Morse by ear at about 15 wpm with pen/pencil and paper (plus, a little faster with a typewriter), but never became proficient decoding via signal light or flag.

Just in case you’re asking a serious question, I’m sorry to report that it’s Morse about as much as my name is Donald Trump.
Those guys were in the real war and it didn't feel very cold to them.
I did my Morse training at Keesler and my crypto at Goodfellow.
I was at Karamursel, Turkey.
