A Syrian Kurdish leader in Washington this week seeking greater US military support says that Russia has also offered to collaborate with Syrian Kurds in its current offensive against Muslim terrorist groups.
Ilham Ehmed, a senior member of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), told Al-Monitor in a brief interview Oct. 8 that "Russia says it wants to work with us" to combat the group that calls itself the Islamic State (IS) and other extremist organizations.
The Barack Obama administration has accused Russia of focusing on more moderate Sunni Arab opponents of the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, rather than IS. According to the Kurds, the United States has also frustrated their desire to expand their area of control in Syria, known as Rojava.
Russia's stunning intervention in Syria appears to have given the PYD a new card to play with the Obama administration.
Asked for the Kurds' view of Russia's bombing campaign, Ehmed said it was "a good step for the fight against terrorism but on the other hand, it is empowering the Assad regime, which is a bad point."
Ehmed also asserted, however, that there are no members of the US-backed Free Syria Army (FSA) in the area around Aleppo and Idlib that is being pummeled in the current Russian offensive.
The Pentagon and White House have a different view and say that Russia is hitting fighters there who have received US funding and training.

The Kurd leader exposes Obama's lie then.
Ehmed also complained about the role being played in Syria by Turkey, calling it "very bad." Turkey "opened the border for terrorism," she said. "Terrorism didn't come from the sky."
Bet the Russians won’t give the humvees without the amor. As far as I am concerned Russia is doing us a favor. They can have the Middle East.
Russia can’t possibly screw up the Middle East even more than we have.
Putin’s allies hate the Kurds, Putin is not to the be trusted.
They Kurds have a long history with the USSR/Russia. The Kurdish rebels in Turkey were allies of the Soviets.
If you mean Kurds = PKK, you are right:
Everyone here in Iraqi Kurdistan, every liberation movement in Iranian Kurdistan, hates the PKK. Originally set up by KGB agent Yevgeni Primakov in the 1970s and sponsored by the Soviets to destabilize NATO-member Turkey, the PKK is now sponsored by the Mullacracy of Iran. The main base of the PKK with several thousand PKK guerrillas, is near Urumia in Iran near the Turkish Border.

PYD = PKK affiliate per Turkey
“They Kurds have a long history with the USSR/Russia. The Kurdish rebels in Turkey were allies of the Soviets.”
After spending a weekend playing geopolitical war with my friends, (drink Jack Daniels and do what’ifs) I came away with the following:
Libya, Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Turkey all have something in common. Obama had a hand in letting ISIS flourish there. Egypt ended that quickly but it was too late. They moved through Iraq into Syria and Turkey is already gone muzzie.
What does this mean? If you look at the map of the middle east, Iran and Turkey are key entry points via the Black Sea to Russia. And if you look at the map a little more carefully, Ukraine is right in the middle of it.
Want to know why Obama chose to fight Russia as a proxy in Ukraine? It is not because he is protecting America’s interest, it is because he is trying to grab a Sunni stronghold on Russia’s shores.
The final battle for global supremacy is not between America, Israel and the world. It is between Communism and Islam and Obama has taken the side of Islam. He is weakening American forces to a point where they will not be able to defend anyone.
That path from Libya through Egypt all the way through Turkey puts Israel square in the middle of ISIS’s march up North. Which also explains Obama’s disgust of Israel.
Obama is playing a game the world has yet to catch on to. This is why you bow to your Saudi brethren. This is why you support the Brotherhood and not kill ISIS in Iraq while you have the chance. This is why you choose to fight in Yemen. This is also why you allow Iran to get nukes and build up terrorist organizations. That is to open a front against Israel while the real war is going on.
It is also why an Iranian general was sacrificed this week while Russian generals were visiting Tel Aviv. That move by the Russians was a message to the Iranians that Israel is not the focus of this exercise so keep your eyes on the ball. It is also why the only person who seems to want a nuke deal with Iran is Obama. The Iranians don’t even want it. They only want the money and Obama might just be too stupid to realize that the money he frees up will go to fighting the Sunni’s, not Israel.
I have always thought all these Muslim jihads from Nigeria to Indonesia and the Philippines have to do with the Saudis looking to control pipeline routes or oil / gas regions. It so happens Islam straddles a lot of such areas. In many cases the State Dept looks the other way because the regimes being destabilized by jihadists are not US allies like China, or Russia and the spooks in DC may think suffering a terrorist attack once and a while is worth it in the long run.
By being willing to properly define the enemy and fight them, the secularist groups (Kurds, Assad’s regime, Iraq’s moderates) are now turning to Russia to be rescued - and gaining more loyalty than it ever did when it conquered countries.
There are even reports of Afghanistan reaching out to Russia to fight ISIS/Taliban forces. Russia could take that country now by fighting the terrorists we emboldened to fight the USSR - and secure a much larger empire in the process because we were weak on Islamic jihad.
