KENTUCKY GOVERNOR’S RACE CLOSE IN THE STRETCH [Bevin (R) 41%, Conway (D) 43%)
Mason Dixon / Real Clear Politics ^ | October 2015

Posted on 10/11/2015 1:34:04 PM PDT by Republican Wildcat

Democrat Jack Conway holds a very slim lead over Republican Matt Bevin as Kentucky’s gubernatorial campaign enters its final three weeks. Statewide, 43% of likely voters currently support Conway, while 41% back Bevin, 6% are for independent Drew Curtis and 10% are undecided.

Conway has a slightly better positive name recognition ratio. Statewide, 42% have a favorable opinion of him and 30% having an unfavorable view. Bevin’s ratio is a bit lower at 39% favorable and 34% unfavorable.

Bevin, however, is getting a stronger party cross-over vote, which is vital for a GOP candidate to win statewide in Kentucky. Bevin is supported by 78% of Republicans and 14% of Democrats, while Conway is backed by 71% of Democrats and 8% of Republicans.

There is a significant gender gap. Conway has a 45%-36% advantage among women, while men favor Bevin by 46%-40%.

If we took the vote from women and metro sexual men, no liberal would win an election.

Good thing Kim Davis isn’t a woman, or the GOP would have Kentucky in its pocket.

Might be shrewd of The Donald to go in to Kentucky for a campaign speech or two, and get Bevin up on stage with him. It would energize the base for Bevin, and lay some some nice groundwork for Trump. If he can get Bevin in, it will make life a lot easier for the Republican candidate (presumably Trump) in a must-win purple state.

Every single ad Conway has run has been negative. He runs 5 - 7 each night on Wheel of Fortune. Most are recycled McConnell ads from last years senate race.

Does this survey exclude or weed out illegals and other foreigners?

When it comes to the president, Kentucky is NOT a purple state. We voted 66% against Obama in the last election.

Who are the “other foreigners” that they should weed out?

Keep your eye on any Des Moines Register poll that comes out. They’re rabidly liberal, but the ONLY outfit that called the mid-terms 3-4 days out.

GO MATT!!!

Then why is Bevin struggling?

Obama got just under 38% in Kentucky in 2012.

This is a different election. He’s not running against Obama.

And he’s not “struggling”, it’s a close race. He hasn’t been running a great race lately though. He wasn’t the best candidate the GOP could nominate.

The whole group would be nice to hold rallies across the state in a common cause to stir up the GOP electorate to turn out and vote. Alas, that hasn’t been done. Huckabee and Cruz were both in the state and did nothing for the candidates running. Paul has held a couple of events (as the home state Senator) and Bush showed up for a fundraiser, but their campaigns are about as exciting as watching paint dry so it didn’t exactly stir up a huge crowd or significant media coverage.

Talk to the McConnell neocon wing of the state Republican Party, who would rather sit on their hands and see the Governor's Mansion stay in the Democrat Party than to get off their asses to help Bevin.
