The last was in Richmond, and he was blessed to be named as part of a prisoner exchange and was sent to Kentucky to recuperate. Thats where he met great grandma, nursing him back to health
All this for him as part of a morally driven crusade tio loose the bonds of slavery for men and women he had no part in enslaving
2 weeks after his release Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, and ALL prisoners exchanges ceased...
He might have died there, having never seen that which he offered his life for....
