and as much as i HATE subsidizing private companies, i’d much rather do it for frackers than for solar.
It’s certainly like Obama wants to instigate a nuclear arms race there, as many have already said. That makes him look more and more like an apocalyptic Twelver, if anything.

Excellent point. As DT says there should be fair trade not free trade.
It should be the same with religion. People in the US should be free to practice their religion but the Saudis cannot build mosques and schools here as long they prohibit freedom of religion.

Exchanging one hostile for another is not a plus.
A couple of years ago, Putin said he regarded Russian-speaking Israelis in Israel as part of what he called the “Russian world”. That says imperialism to me, especially since he’s continuing to support “Death to Israel” Iran. Between Israel and the “Palestinians”, Putin typically supports the latter, being especially condemning of Israel during Operation Protective Edge.
My most fervent hope is that Iran and Saudi Arabia go to war with each other, with all the Sunnis lined up with the Saudis, and all the Shi’ites lined up with Iran. Neither side wins an easy victory over the other, however, and they become bogged down in fighting each other, with huge, inconclusive battles that take a massive amount of lives from both sides, and trenches and no man land’s carve the Muslim world like some macabre scar, visible from space.
In this vision of mine, the hotheads on both sides throw themselves mercilessly at their enemies but do not prevail, until, like Germany and Japan after WWII, both sides are utterly exhausted, all the fundamentalists have died in battle, and only a feeble, more retrospective Islam survives, with all the firebrand Imams, Ayatollahs and clerics churned into worm food in some hellish no man’s land..
That’s never going to happen. They aren’t enemies with each other as much as they are enemies with the so-called Great and Little Satans.
A hog farm open waste pit has more redeeming qualities than the KSA.
One can dream... And hope.
