Ted Cruz says Donald Trump won't be Republican nominee
washington times ^ | 10/8/2015 | Seth McLaughlin

Posted on 10/08/2015 8:45:02 PM PDT by BlackFemaleArmyColonel

Sen. Ted Cruz said Thursday that he doesn’t think that Donald Trump will capture the 2016 GOP presidential nomination and predicted that it is only a matter of time before most of the New York billionaire’s supporters will move into his camp. During an appearance on WABC-AM Radio, host Rita Cosby asked Mr. Cruz whether he would eventually move past Mr. Trump based on his conservative principles, and the Texas Republcian said “I think that’s right.” “In time, I don’t believe Donald is going to be the nominee, and I think in time the lion’s share of his supporters end up with us,” Mr. Cruz said. Mr. Trump has tangled with most of the candidates running for the Republican presidential nomination and has touted how some of his rivals have sunk in the polls after attacking him. But he has not traded barbs with Mr. Cruz, who has been Mr. Trump’s biggest ally in the crowded GOP field. In the WABC-AM interview, Mr. Cruz continued to praise Mr. Trump, saying he liked and respected “Donald.” Mr. Cruz said Mr. Trump has boosted his candidacy and his chance of becoming the party’s standard-bearer. “I think his involvement has been tremendously helpful to my campaign because it has framed the central question of the primary as: Who will stand up to Washington?” Mr. Cruz said. “And if that’s the central question, the natural next question, that any voter will ask is okay, well who actually has stood up to Washington? Who has a record in that regard?” The Cruz campaign also announced Thursday that he will report raising $12.2 million over the last three months — exceeding the hauls of fellow Sens. Marco Rubio of Florida, who plans to report $6 million, and Rand Paul of Kentucky, who raised $2.5 million.

Cruz said he doesn’t think Trump will be the nominee. That to me is betrayal. Trump has been great to Cruz but I don’t think he’s going to like this little forecast. I don’t like it.

People, please. When have you ever seen a Presidential candidate, asked by a reporter on the stump, say “oh, I’m not going to win. My opponent is clearly better.”

Sheesh.

Exactly.

I think this is the media trying to drive a wedge between two men who seem to mutually respect each other.

If Cruz thinks Trump will be the nominee, then what would be the point of him continuing his campaign?

How long has it been lately, since I last said I don’t like that little flame logo on Cruz’ stuff? It still looks Islamic to me.

Some of these posts are breaking my heart. I never though I would see this here (see below posts) (DU maybe)

“Cruz is fighting for dead last. He needs to drop out, quickly. Freepers go mad, but he’s a dud.”

“I wish he’d (Cruz) do the right thing and drop and endorse Trump.

There’s just no way he’ll be on top. He’s just not well liked and is not a good campaigner. I know that kills a lot of freepers to hear, but it’s the truth.”

Cruz is my horse and the one I give money to. At this point, I would be very surprised if he were to win but man is it fun to have him in the race. Cruz is brilliant and does what he says he is going to do. I look forward to giving him more support if for no other reason than to piss off the establishment.

I believe the Holy Spirit lives within us. Without it there is no compulsion to do right.

I'm not certain who you mean by us. If you mean the regenerate, certainly the Holy Spirit has made us His temple and He dwells in us. But, if you mean all humanity I must disagree. Humanity has been given general revelation to know things of God but not His redemption. (see Romans 1 below) The call to the sinner is effectual when the Holy Spirit working upon the elect to will and to do. The "helper" in John 15:26 is understood to be the Holy Spirit.

" But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.

It would seem that the Holy Spirit was not in all if He was sent after the resurrection. Yet, there were many who did right even before the Holy Spirit was sent so I think your reasoning is incorrect.

Romans 1:19-25 ... because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man -- and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

P.S. Remember how good Trump's judgment was in '08? He was all in for Romney, wasn't he? And now he's slamming Romney left and right

As Ted Cruz would say...."that's exactly right".

And it is....When Trump decided some weeks before he announced, he and advisors began to create his campaign political look, as you would pick a suit for a event. If the event was a breast cancer fundraiser, you might consider pink! (for example)

This is obviously not the only political stance that was rebuilt from scratch.

One can only hope that in the end, common sense and a degree of "show me" attitude will eventually win the day. But like I said, it's only a hope.

I’ll concede almost any point you’ve raised in that thoughtful post.

If Cruz can show he is free of GOPe donor influence and demonstrate he is capable of winning the General, I’m in.

Trump’s lack of a record and his money are his big selling points to me. Is Cruz truly an outsider? I hope so.

Romney was critical of his initial immigration comment that got so much press..

The criticism Donald came back with was not even related to the comment. He was politically distancing himself from another north eastern Republican for political reasons whom he has endorsed in 2012...

The word fight with Romney was calculated, it was not just a return shot.

Some of these posts are breaking my heart.

This is just the spirit of Boehner-McConnell here at Free Republic. They surrender before the battle because they could lose a fight. We lose every battle when we surrender before it starts. Many Trumpets here are waving the white flag and going with what they think will pass, principles be damned. Cruz is the Tea Party candidate that has fought in the belly of the beast and some say that disqualifies him. Apparently a resume with no conservative bona fides and a thin resume of public sector service are the new requirements for the fed-up. Do not fret, the vote counting has not yet begun and there is plenty of time for a more coherent message to penetrate the American psyche.

Buck up, my friend. Presidential elections are not about our hurt feelings, but about a single man or woman to repair our nation, enough to fight ISIS. What are we Americans made of, anymore, silk or leather? Just blow it off and charge the hill.

Close the thread. You said it ALL. (And, you said it way up on this thread, at 63.)

I’m boring everyone stating the same— that if Trump can be taken down, there are none left who can stand. Except of course for the Establishment/Media/KStreet/Wall Street/CoC candidate, Jeb Bubba Bush.

That’s not a threat, but a promise. Just promisin’.

NOTE: I read this as I replied to each stage of your post to me.  Please know that where you made some comments of agreement later on in the post, I noted it and understood your thoughts on things.

I believe the Holy Spirit lives within us. Without it there is no compulsion to do right.

I'm not certain who you mean by us.

Who did God create?  Are we not all God's children?

If you mean the regenerate, certainly the Holy Spirit has made us His temple and He dwells in us.

There is a flicker of the Holy Spirit in every man.  We know that on the cross beside Jesus a man who was evil was motivated to give his heart to Jesus and accept his death as his salvation.  If man has the choice, then the Holy Spirit has to be present for him to make an evaluation.  No Holy Spirit, no pleading on behalf of God to make the right choice.

But, if you mean all humanity I must disagree.

I can understand your reasoning here, but ultimately I disagree.  The Holy Sprit exists inside of each of us, Christians, and the followers of every other religion or cult.  Depending on revealed truth to humans, they make choices.  That is the roll of the Holy Spirit, to be that contact with man that allows in him the ability to review truth and recognize it for what it is.

Nothing good comes from Satan.  Nothing bad comes from God.  Even the followers of Islam are inhabited by the Holy Spirit to some degree.

This does not mean that the Holy Spirit thrives in every man.  It is up to us to nurture the Holy Spirit in the same way Christ did, so that it will be the force for us it was for him.  We can cause the Holy Spirit to be stronger within us, by making right choices.

I am convinced that the most vile follower of Islam could at some point repent.  This is the power of the Holy Spirit, and without it's presence, this would not be possible.

Humanity has been given general revelation to know things of God but not His redemption. (see Romans 1 below) The call to the sinner is effectual when the Holy Spirit working upon the elect to will and to do. The "helper" in John 15:26 is understood to be the Holy Spirit.

"But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me."

Okay.  I would submit that the Holy Spririt comes upon us when we contemplate actions, and make decisions.  If we focus on the Holy Spirit, ask for hit's help, and exercise our connection, that connection become stronger.  I do not believe in a total absense of God from our souls.  I believe the permanent absense of the Holy Spirit only happens upon death.  It is only then that our decision to be good or bad is cast in stone, never to change again.  There is also a question if the Holy Spirit leaves us even then.  Some care has been taken to protect our souls.  Nothing good comes from Satan.  Only God can do this.  God's agent on earth, the Holy Spirit.

It would seem that the Holy Spirit was not in all if He was sent after the resurrection. Yet, there were many who did right even before the Holy Spirit was sent so I think your reasoning is incorrect.

Once again, I understand why you might come to some of these conclusions, but ulitamely I am compelled to disagree.

The Bible is replete with accounts of men and women who were moved by the Holy Spirit in Old Testament times.  Would God give only some men the Holy Spirit to comfort them and not others?

You know the stories as well or better than I do.  In the Garden I doubt you think man was cast adrift to be tempted by Satan without the counter-balance of the Holy Spirit?  God would not abandon man like that.  Man merely listened to the wrong voice.

Gifts of the Holy Spirit were elevated after the Cross.  We know the diciples were given the gift of speaking in tongues so they could instruct and edify to the four corners of the world.  I do not share the belief that the Holy Spirit did not move upon man until after the Cross.  For Jesus to be the true test of living a perfect life and dying for us, wouldn't he have to be a man that experienced the full human experience?  He was moved by the Holy Spirit prior to the cross.  He proved what the posibilites were.

Amen.

Do you believe that every man prior to the cross was condemned to die an eternal death?

I am certain you don't.  If you don't, then you must understand that man had to be able to reason between right and wrong.  Isn't reason a good thing?  No good thing comes from Satan.

People had to reason to make the right choices before the cross.  Without the Holy Spirit, they would not have been able to chose between right and wrong.  There had to be an agent of compelling for the right within those people.

Thank you for the discussion.

I also think he staged all these battles on the floor of the Senate to try and boost his status as an outsider who stands up to the DC cartel - as he calls them. Yeah, he’s good at speechifying, but, there is something ruthless underneath that demeanor.

Yes, and he also staged his fights with DC when he was working here in Texas, he paid his professor to call him one of the most brilliant students he's ever seen. Even his senior thesis on the 9/10th amendments was all part of a plan he hatched in the sandbox at 5 years old, to take over the Presidency! Even more conspiratorial than Obama!

I agree. I do so laughingly, because I take that as a good natured slam.

No slam intended, you said exactly what I have been thinking. And what you added here is spot on.

I have screamed for someone other than Trump to figure out what is making him popular, instead they attack him so I have completely abandoned any notion that Cruz can pull of a win. So Trump it is because if Trump falters Cruz won't even beat Rubio because he just doesn't connect with people, for whatever reason.

There is a lot in what you say, here, regarding Cruz. You’re so right. You said, STAGNANT poll numbers, lots of bills setting up ground operations in every county in Iowa and NH, and basically, picking up the litter from folded campaigns. All true.

If we can all bother to look at the 2016 campaign calendar, and can just agree that we’re already five months in, with only the first democrat debate this month, the holidays (football season) just about upon us, and the first votes coming in February, then we can see why break out events are very much needed by the contenders, who are underneath Trump/Carson.

It is bound to get very noisy here pretty quick, and some candidates simply have to be thinking of getting out. The shake ups will begin to narrow the bottom tier; Santorum, Graham, that guy who has yet to even leave his garage what’shisname, and one by one the rest dropping out (like Rand Paul), you know who they are, until we get to four contenders; Trump, Carson, Rubio, and Bush/Cruz, or Fiorina.

Cruz is simply trying to move to the middle with his “dumb” remark, to see if that will work to broaden his support with more moderates, and thereby bump his poll numbers by January 1. Cruz supporters believe it will be he who wins in Iowa & NH, because of our antiquated polling methods.

Can you imagine the incredible people Trump can access for government reconstruction.

Yes, just imagine the kind of reconstruction he would pursue, seeing as how he was an enthusiastic supporter of Obama in 2008 and only two years ago helped put Terry McAuliffe, former DNC chairman and campaign honcho for both Bill and Hillary Clinton, in the Virginia governor's mansion.

Please, imagine. How you can tell where a patriotic celebrity showman billionaire with zero political compass will go, is a mystery.

You can vote for what you hope a candidate will be.

I will vote for what I know a candidate will be.

Cruz is and has always been guided by a consistent political compass, pretty much the same one that guided the Founders. I'll vote for Cruz because I know where he'll go, and I want it to win. I only vote for what I want to win.
