New research in Spain proves that unborn babies can hear and respond to music at just 16 weeks, ten weeks earlier than previously thought, but only if played through a 'musical tampon'.
The incredible 3D images show the foetuses opening their mouths and sticking out their tongues in response to music emitted via the vagina.
"The foetuses responded to the music by moving their mouths and their tongues as if they wanted to speak or sing," said the Instituto Marqués, which unveiled the results of the tests - carried out on 100 pregnant women - on Tuesday.
Previous research had concluded that the auditory system does not start working until the 26th week of pregnancy.
As well as shining a light on the mysteries of the baby in the womb, the new research could help in the diagnosis of conditions such as deafness, as well as helping to improve ultrasound scans because of the movement the music provokes in the foetus.
"Our study suggests that music induces a response that activates brain circuits, stimulating language and communication," the institute said in a statement on its website, adding, "it proves that learning begins in the womb."
The study also shows that a foetus only hears music "like we do" when it is emitted via the vagina: "if we play the music externally, next to the abdomen, the foetus does not perceive it in the same way."
The foetus can hear their mother chatting, her heartbeat and even her heels clicking on the floor, but all those external sounds are perceived as more of a murmur, unlike the music that was played via the vagina.

The music was transmitted using a Babypod a "musical tampon"; an speaker specially designed to emit music via the vagina.
Babypods retail for around 150 ($170) and expectant mothers are advised to use them for only around 20 minutes a day to expose their babies to music in the womb.
And what musical masterpiece did researchers choose to beam through to the foetuses? Maybe some classic Julio Iglesias or one hit wonder La Macarena?
They went a little more high-brow and played Bachs Partita in A minor for solo flute.
The Institute Marqués has often championed the role of music in foetal development.
In July, Spanish singer-songwriter Antonio Orozco, visited the centre to play a very special gig; for 380 embryos.
The gig was in support of the institute's reseach into how music plays an integral role in embryonic and foetal development.
I’d suggest they don’t move around a lot to the funeral dirge they play at PP 24/7. May they burn in hell.
But the liberals who bitch about the GOP not accepting science in the area of global warming, will NOT accept the findings of this scientific research. They can’t allow themselves to think that the unborn baby is actually a human life.
Remember...your government gods say they’re just goo. So probably they’re not dancing, but vibrating from overly loud bass and loud speakers. /s
I wonder if he has a particular liking for Fiona Ritchie!?
Wait a minute. How can unsubstantiated tissue mass sing and dance in mama’s womb? This is one story the left will surpress.
A nurse practitioner told me that when they do the ultrasound, they cover the probe with a condom and then feed the mom chocolate to make the baby move. Now they can use music. This same nurse said one day when their then small practice ran out of chocolate and condoms, she was elected to go the drug store to get both so she goes through the check out with about 20 packages of condoms and several very large candy bars. The clerk made some comment about it being quite a party.
Is this a couples exercise ?
The truth is we can only go as far as our science will take us. And that isn't very far.
In China, pregnant mothers will put headphones on their abdomens and play Mozart, because “it makes kids smart.”
They even market Mozart music for babies in, and out of, the womb.
With that in mind, one would think their society would have more respect for the unborn than it does. More cognitive dissonance created by materialists, socialists and the just plain corrupt.
My son waved his hands over his head back and forth while reacting to the ultrasound. It was clear that he didn’t like it.
But, of course, they’re not human. /s/
I’m currently 20 weeks..same here! He doesn’t like the ultrasound at all - you can actually see him trying to hide.
By the time the msm gets done with this story, “babypod” will become “lifelessclumpofcellsfordisposalatwillPod”.
Wow. How exciting. A boy!
Ours is in college and has a serious girlfriend (college first, then maybe marriage).
A warning: they grow up and the grow up fast! Enjoy every minute.
It is a wonderful experience and truly God’s gift.
You know what’s a scary, ironic thought? I could theoretically have a child probably same age as yours! But things happen for a reason and God has a plan. So, his plan for me is conceiving at a later age! Ha. We tried for a few years & thought it wasn’t meant to be but here I am! Yes,it’s truly a blessing. I’m halfway there :)
If there are twins, triplets and so on, will they line dance?

Something tells me that the Babypod is going to inspire in some womyn a sudden fondness for rap music.
Now I'm in for it. :)
