How to Roll Back Russia

Every day seems to bring an escalation of the Russian military involvement in Syria. First it was airstrikes from more than 30 warplanes that Russia has positioned in Syria. Now it’s cruise missile strikes from warships in the Caspian Sea. Soon, if hints from Moscow are to be believed, Russian “volunteers” — a.k.a. “Little Green Men” — will be showing up in Syria to engage in ground combat alongside Iranian and Assad forces.

President Obama can pretend that this is no big deal and that Russia is getting sucked into a quagmire, but this is a serious geopolitical disaster and a major humiliation for the United States. Putin, in fact, seems to be going out of his way to target American-backed rebel groups and to send his aircraft to violate the airspace of Turkey, a NATO ally, as if to demonstrate how powerless mighty American has become and how once-weak Russia can again strut on the world stage.

Yea, and? So what? That is why you rather back jihadis in Syria over Assad and Putin? Also, which is it? Is Putin using the Church or is the Church using Putin?

“How many nations has Iran invaded since the fall of the Shah? Wars started?” Plenty, they just don’t start conventional wars.

Then it should not be so hard.

I find the ones rooting for Assad’s downfall seem to not care about Syrian Christians - guessing probably because the Syrian Christians are of the eastern non Protestant variety and hence don’t figure in their world view? I hope its not the case.

"That is not the case in Russia, where the government actually exerts control over the church leadership and uses the church as an unofficial wing of the government to further the state’s goals."

Those are not facts in evidence.

You are making unsubstantiated claims.

And I have been reading crazy conspiracy theories since the 90s also. How many nations has Iran invaded since the fall of the Shah? Wars started? I find Iran a shrewd and dangerous enemy but that reacts rather than acts.

Read up on the Iran/Iraq war. One reason it was so bloody on the Iranian side is because they kept wanting to prove that Allah was on their side, and it was his will that they should win, and so they threw bodies into it without planning it out very well.

For that matter, read up on the Persian Empire in general. They have a mind set that needs to be dealt with.

But all Muslims are not to be trusted. Why is the Sunni death cult (that actually has access to a bomb via Pakistan) not a fear of yours?

Who said it wasn't? I regard the Pakistani bomb as a stupid blunder by the Euroweenies. We should have never let that happen.

For that matter, I have always been of the Curtis LeMay school of anti-nuclear proliferation. He had the right idea back in the early 1950s.

Are you so motivated by some hackneyed apocalyptic 1990s conspiracy theory ...

Stop. Just stop. You aren't going to successfully portray the concept of religious wackadoodles in Iran getting nuke weapons as a "conspiracy theory."

No, they really are religious nut-bags, they really do want to threaten us with Nukes, and they really are about to get their hands on Nuclear Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles. They already have a space launch capability, so they will be able to drop a crude nuke bomb anywhere they want it to go, including New York or Washington.

that you would see all Syrian Christians killed an an Sunni jihad victory in Syria and Iraq?

And this is what is known as the fallacy of "false choice." You present the argument as a false choice between two things. Either Accept Iran as a Nuclear power, or condemn to death all the Innocent Christians in the greater Syria area.

No, there is a third choice. We kill ISIS, and then we Kill the Iranian nuke program.

I was in favor of smashing the sh*t out of Iran back in 1979 when they took our hostages. I think they are long overdue for a smashing. Too bad Bush wasted so much of our money and resources trying to do social experiments with Iraq and Afghanistan.

I am suggesting that you concentrate on the entire picture and form a national policy. That policy might be to concentrate on Isis but maybe not. In any event it requires an assessment of the balance of risks and fixing America’s national interests

The solution to the problems in the Middle East (after riddance to Obama) is to destroy Iran's military and nuclear capability.

Then the world can see which power can effect REAL change.

And, it's not like we don't have due and just cause. And, legitimate strategic interest in doing so.

This is my thinking as well. Once O-butthole is gone, we can get an adult to address the problem of a Nuclear armed Iran.

I would inform the Russians and the Chinese that we will not tolerate an Iran with a nuclear capability, and that we are going to take a much harder line in insuring they never get such a capability, up to going to war with them if necessary.

They will either peacefully dismantle their nuclear production facilities, or we will dismantle them violently.

Lol, “facts in evidence”, this is not a court.

The claims are not unsubstantiated though:

I also have a bridge for sale. The Russian Orthodox church is awesome. You know nothing of it but you spit out your opinion as if anyone should believe it.

"I would inform the Russians and the Chinese"

The political benefit of war against Iran would at least be equal to the strategic benefit.

It would sure shut a lot of flapping jaws.

And, it would make our allies feel safe under US protection.

Right now, every country who has relied on Uncle Sam for security is sh!tting themselves with fear and looking for options.

Russia has weighed in on the side of the Shiites. ValJar is Shiite. Huma is Shiite. Iran is Shiite.

Saudi is Sunni.

Russia would go back home tomorrow if the price of oil went back above $100/BBL. Unless and until that happens, the Russians will continue to plan and equip for the invasion of Saudi Arabia.

From there, the Iranians will insist upon the invasion of Israel, which is where things will get interesting.

On my Xoom at home today I can only get your last link to come up. The only thing available where I live is WiFi satellite...but I know quite a bit about the story and some of the people in it.
To what church do you belong?

Symbiosis is not control.

No doubt they share much of the same vision.

But the ROC is clear in they do not want a role in the administration of the State.

Wrong. Russia keeps a fleet in a port in Syria and has substantial trade and commerce with them historically. It is not about oil.

Fact: 50% of Russia’s annual budget comes from oil revenue.
Fact: The Saudis have been pumping to keep the price of oil down because they know what it is doing to the Persians and the Russians.

There are reports of 700 Russian tanks and 100,000 Russian troops in Syria, along with 170 bombers. All of this protected by SAMs. ISIS doesn’t have an Air Force.

That is enough firepower and troops to form two Army Corps, and an entire Bomber Group.

They aren’t going after ISIS.

They are there to restore Assad to power and kill Islamic terrorists, something they have a great deal of experience with. To protect their port and fleet, to kill thousands of Chechens fighting against Assad, to restore a million or more in trade with Syria, and to clean up the mess our idiot leadership created. Thank God.
