The House Freedom Caucus will vote for Representative Daniel Webster (R-FL) for Speaker of the House when the Republican conference chooses its candidate on Thursday.
The group said in a statement, according to the Washington Post:
It is clear that our constituents will simply not accept a continuation of the status quo, and that the viability of the Republican Party depends on whether we start listening to our voters and fighting to keep our promises We accordingly believe that, under the present circumstances and without significant changes to Conference leadership and process, Rep. Daniel Webster would be best equipped to earn back the trust of the American people as Speaker of the House.
As Rep. John Fleming (R-LA) explained, the decision to vote together applies only for the conference vote on Thursday, and is not binding for votes that may follow, according to the Washington Examiner.
The decision damages the prospects for current Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who has been endorsed by outgoing Speaker John Boehner in his battle against Representative Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) and Webster.
It requires a majority of the House, or 218 votes, to win the gavel. There are currently 247 Republicans in the House.

Excellent!
If there is something to the accusations off McCarthey -Ellmers (”Ellmer serves as the current chairwoman of the Republican Womens Policy Committee.[28] In 2015, she led five other Republican women in opposing a bill banning abortion after 20 weeks.”) that puts McCarthy in the same boat with Bob Livingston and Dan Coates.
South Carolina can do better than Ellmers. She needs a serious primary challenger.
I mean North Carolina.
WOW...you mean we really have some Representatives that have balls???? OMGosh, I’m going to faint!!!
Per Gradegov.com, WEBSTER is a MIDDLE OF THE ROAD “C”.
Hell, McCarthy is a B MINUS.
And WEBSTER is an IMPROVEMENT??
I smell another rat here, gang!!
The Freedom Caucus has a great opportunity here, they’d better not blow it! They need to really show their strength by insisting on a true conservative. Time to play hardball with the GOPe!
Don’t pass out until you see Post 6!
Hope it goes to several votes, and then the right man steps forward.
ConservativeReview score isn’t very good.
Levin doesn’t like any of the three ... Webster, Chaffetz, or McCarthy.
Salute!
See Post 6. THEY BLEW IT!
Levin is right! See Post 6.
Just saw! These reps suck!!
Boehner was a symptom, not the disease.
And so, to be quite blunt, my expectations from all of this are quite low.
One way or another, it's going to be business as usual.
That is, unless and until we truly clean House.
Why don’t they nominate Levin for Speaker. You don’t have to be a member of Congress to be Speaker. Anybody can run.
McCarthy will not go quietly into the night. He’ll bring the whole party down before he’ll give up.
You might want to reexamine your belief in ‘gradegov.com’ because Louie Gohmert endorsed Webster and that speaks volumes above any rating website.
Critical time here ... we can do better!
OH CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And Chaffetz was a demonRAT before he was a Republican....isn’t there ANYONE in the House that has an ‘upstanding reputation’ that can lead????????????
I’m fainting.....
