U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter said Wednesday the U.S.-led coalition has not agreed to cooperate with Russia in the fight against the Islamic State and no collaboration is possible as long as Moscow continues to strike other targets.

He said the U.S. will conduct basic, technical talks with Russia about efforts to ensure that flights over Syria are conducted safely, and, "That's it."

I am gettng the impression Saudi is starting to show internal political weakness , signs of which would not normally be apparent to outsiders

Their new King was just hospitalized for dementia so the royal family is squabbling over replacement
There is still blowback to come from the countries whose citizens were killed or missing in the 5,000 person HAJJ death crush ... Iran is threatening war .... 28 Saudis were beheaded as responsible but whispers say the crush was caused by a Saudi Royal and his entourage
The Saudis are indiscriminately bombing Yemenis with no reproach and the Iranians are re supplying the rebels so yet another pricy war between Saudi and Iran ( both now US “ allies”) and there are thousands of Shia in eastern Saudi
ISIS in Yemen just killed a bunch of people in a car bombing so who is backing ISIS in Yemen and why?

I guess the question is whether Saudi is the major driver of our regional policy, or it is Turkey
Which is also beset with internal issues including its own President

My impression is that the not very stealthy Saudi jihad against the West comes from Saudi royals, but not the titular ruler. That probably won’t change.

Turkey’s main utility is to drag NATO in to back up their malignant deeds and designs.

NATO has long outlived its usefulness and has become what it was meant to oppose. It should be dissolved.

Turkey stinks on ice
Erdogan ‘s internal repressions against Kurdish ethnics is starting to make Assad look like a moderate ruler

but Turkey gives the yee-haw Putin haters in the US and NATO the excuse they need to manufacture a reason for our intervention and to confront Russia

Obama, Hillary, MeCain, Kerry - all to happy to let the Syrian Rebels, better know as ISIS, overthrow Assad.

Putin says, I'll kill those terrorist bastards for everyone as he moves in military assets into Syria. ..propping up Assad.

Syrian Rebels, better know as ISIS, skedattle to Europe.

Now Obama welcomes the ISIS refugees with open arms.

Opie is all upset that Putin has upset his Kabuki theater.

Putin is really going after ISIS after Obama has done his best to protect them.

I made this very point about NATO in the aftermath of the Ukrainian coup last year and was accused of being a traitor for it. Here the danger is just the same, that one of the new little Chihuahua members - or an Islamist Turkey - will drag the stronger NATO treaty members into their separate, ancient squabbles.
