Having established a base on the Syrian coast, Vladimir Putin last week began air strikes on ISIS and other rebel forces seeking to overthrow Bashar Assad. A longtime ally of Syria, Russia wants to preserve its toehold on the Mediterranean, help Assad repel the threat, and keep the Islamic terrorists out of Damascus.
Russia is also fearful that the fall of Assad would free up the Chechen terrorists in Syria to return to Russia. In intervening to save Assad, Putin is doing exactly what we are doing to save our imperiled allies in Baghdad and Kabul. Yet Putins intervention has ignited an almost berserk reaction.

I think Buchanan has a better understanding of this issue than McCain or Hillary or Obama or....lots of others.
I agree.
How does that relate to the article?
The uniparty pin heads want World War III.
Bret Baier looks like Count Von Count.
Ok, so let me get this straight:
Some folks want us to declare a no fly zone over a country we are not at war with, to prevent another country (who was invited in by the legitimate government) to help quash a civil war.
Is that about it?
Tell me where the constitution says that is allowed. And someone tell me how that can be a god idea.
Hey 0bumba, the 1980’s are calling wanting their foreign policy back.
War with Russia will not be limited to that theater alone...
“It is U.S. policy in Syria that makes no sense. We train rebels at immense cost to fight Assad, who cannot or will not fight.”
There are no moderate rebels. Never thought Pat was this naive.
“We attack ISIS”
No, “we” pretend to attack ISIS. The “moderates” are an invention to supply ISIS.
“which also seeks to bring down the Assad regime.”
That’s what NATO/US/Saudis want. Assad has pipeline, is a Russian ally and won’t join IMF.
“Who do we think will rise if Assad falls? Do we have a government in a box
That would be the ISIS and Al Queda miscreants, just like the guys that run Libya.
“We will have taken the Sunni side in the Sunni-Shiite sectarian long war. How long such a war would last, and how it would end, no one knows.”
As long as it takes to de-Chistianize the U.S. eliminate any vestige of the constitution and impose Sharia law.
Pat, didn’t you know that 0bama is a muzzie jihadist?
Well said!
For months, Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia has called on Congress to debate and decide before we launch any new war in the Middle East. One wishes him well. For it is obvious that the same blockheads who told us that if the Taliban and Saddam and Gadhafi fell, liberal democracy would arise and flourish, are now clamoring for another American war in Syria to bring down Assad.
And who says stay out? Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders, both of whom also opposed the U.S. invasion of Iraq.
There is something to be said for outsiders.
Patrick J. Buchanan
Did you read the article?
And those calling for a war with Russia over Syria (literally OVER Syria} are alleged by the media to be the wise anointed Foreign Policy Experts. They haven’t learned a damned thing in the last 13 years. The extent of their strategic thinking is wanting to look strong. Having any kind of achievable coherent plan doesn’t even enter the picture.
The reality is that Putin has out gamed 0bama in a Geo-political game that 0bama doesn’t even realize that he is playing.
0bama is either clueless or complicate. I vote clueless.
The key was the Iran Deal.
As soon as that deal was resolved, Putin with Iran have put in motion their plan to completely take over Iraq.
The Russians will push ISIS out of Syria and restate Assad.
The Russians will continue to chase ISIS in Iraq with the help of Iran.
Iran will soon be in complete control of IRAQ.
The Saudi’s see this coming and already have their hands full dealing with the Iranian led insurgence on their border in Yemen.
This is playing out as a Sunni vs. Shiite clash that puts the US in a position of either supporting the Saudis/ISIS against Iran/Russia or Iran and the Shiite’s against the Sunnis in Saudi Arabia and ISIS.
This is a no win situation for the US and Putin has/is taking advantage of it.
Please understand, these Arabs are like the Communist in China, they really don’t care how many of their own people die along the way to achieving their goals.
Putin knows this while 0bama has no clue.
0bama has been gamed on an unprecedented scale that will go down in what is left of history as the greatest blunder or display of incompetence ever recorded.
We do need to get involved, but a no-fly zone would just be making a bad situation worse. The best time to have come up with and implemented a strategy involving major US forces would have been circa 2010, by this point all big footprint options short of imposing martial law using the US military will fail.
The smaller footprint options are all fraught with risks, as are the ignore the whole area options (seems to be Obama's actual plan, unfortunately he talks intervention). I would suggest supporting the Druze near the Isreali border with the cooperation and assistance of the Isrealis, and giving the Kurds much more military assistance. These suggestions do require accepting that neither Iraq nor Syria will ever be put back together in our lifetimes. Supporting the Kurds will be problematic as my understanding of the politics of an independent Kurdistan will cause it to have border disputes with all of its neighbors.
