Assuming that there are good and bad people on both the right and the left and that everyone is horrified by mass shootings, how is one to explain the great divide between the Right and the Left on the gun issue as it relates to mass murders, such as the one recently committed at Umpqua Community College?
Why does the Left focus on more gun-control laws, and why doesnt the Right?
One reason the Right doesnt focus on gun-control laws is quintessentially American. Many Americans believe that it is their right and even their duty to own guns for self-protection. Unique among major democratic and industrialized nations, Americans have traditionally believed in relying on the state as little as possible. The Right carries on this tradition, while the Left believes in relying on the state as much possible including, just to name a few areas, in education, health care, and personal protection.
A second reason for the Left-Right divide is that the Left is uncomfortable with blaming people for bad actions. The Right, on the other hand, is far more inclined to blame people for their bad actions.

Would that the Leftist put so much effort into hating evil as they do hating God.
“Men by their constitutions are naturally divided into two parties: 1. Those who fear and distrust the people, and wish to draw all powers from them into the hands of the higher classes. 2. Those who identify themselves with the people, have confidence in them, cherish and consider them as the most honest and safe, although not the most wise depositary of the public interests.” - Thomas Jefferson
The simplest explanation for this phenomenon is that conservatives think, and liberals emote.
The brain chemistry must be different. Emoting never solved one problem, except perhaps to make another person FEEL better. Well, feelings come and go, but an ACTUAL solution to a problem is better (and far longer lasting).
Anyway, on the gun issue I have so lost patience with the idiotic, non-sensical “reasoning” of the libs/Leftists that I basically just tell them that if they want my guns, they are going to have to kill me. I warn them that my guns will have a far higher temperature than my then-cooling body, and that they should be careful not to slip on all of the brass casings surrounding my body.
My opposition to gun control is because it would never solve the problem it’s designed to address. It’s little different than the idea that Prohibition stopped all drinking in the US. All it did was drive the market underground and make a bunch of bad people very rich. A better solution: Make the entire US a conceal and carry (CC) zone. How many of the mass shootings took place in a “gun free” zone? If the entire US were CC, it may well be that a crazy would never get off multiple shots, if any. The Left likes the warm-fuzzies they feel when boasting they created a “gun free” zone. Clearly, their approach doesn’t work. I would put all of those deaths squarely on the heads of the Lefties who created the various “gun free” zones. Such zones simply don’t work. Time to try something else, and Obozo’s and Hillary’s plans are doomed to failure before they get off the ground. Just plain stupid.
Leftists think everyone is as crazy as they are and shouldn’t have guns.
Conservatives understand human nature and will not surrender their God given right to self-defense.
The difference between right and left in gun control is called windage.
You add or subtract clicks to get on target, compensate for wind, etc.
Just so!
We already have the God-given Right to Keep and Bear Arms!
The 2nd Amendment is not permissive — it reinforces Natural Law!
That it is not honored by our own government is the problem we have to fix!
liberal - only your controllers have the guns.
conservative - aim your gun well, control the recoil, neutralize the threats.
The left loves Commies and Tyrants and the Right doesn’t ,,, the right stands up for our constitution and the liberties it provides ,,, simple as that !
― Robert A. Heinlein
Firearms control is hitting your target.
End of story.
