Events in both the Republican and Democratic presidential races have outstripped the ability of political strategists and journalists to understand them. Faced with the continued dominance of Donald Trump and the undeniable strength of Bernie Sanders, many in the political commentariat have tried to stuff a series of baffling events into familiar interpretive constructs. It's not working.
It's probably fair to say that every not most, every Republican strategist in Washington believes Trump will fade, or perhaps blow up, or in any event will not be the GOP nominee. Everything in their experience tells them he won't last. Which has led to the extraordinary scenario of a frontrunner being asked repeatedly under what circumstances would he drop out of the race.

"You seem to think the laws of gravity are applying this year," the Times' David Brooks said to another panelist on "Meet the Press" a few weeks ago, "but so far they haven't."
"Trump defies the laws of gravity," echoed CNN's Jonathan Mann.
"Some candidates [are] rising, some falling and one candidate still seems to be defying gravity," noted NPR's Melissa Block.
There are lots of other examples. The reason the commentators cite the law of gravity is that they all embrace certain ideas about how campaigns work. Trump's campaign is not conforming to those ideas, and it is simply blowing their minds. (Mine, too, on more than one occasion.)

The Democrats are at least playing to their extreme elements, Rupublicans not as much. We seem to be trying to get that moderate middle again that has won us so many elections in the past.
Don’t worry too much Mr. York, neither Trump nor Sanders will be their parties’ nominee. I am betting on a GOPe type and a Hillary clone, if Jeb drops out and she is in jail or faces an indictment within hours of being sworn in.
It simple. The many average voter have figured out that the GOP/Democrat divide in DC is a lie. The have realized that the defiantly corrupt, incompetent DC Political/Media/Business party is the average voter’s biggest enemy.
The problem is a good number of those voter see Big Business as controlling the Media/political part and so mistakenly identify with Sanders populist rhetoric. If you asked an average Sanders voter why they like him, most of them would not realize that Sanders solution is to EXPAND the power defiantly corrupt, incompetent DC Political/Media/Business party, not end it.
I'll bet $1,000 on the donald.
Loser pays $1,000 to FR, put up the money, in an escrow account, the keys held by Jim Robinson, or STFU and go away.
He didn’t seem to mind when he was carring the water for the muzzie leg humper all the way to DC....
Ditto.
Fun fact: When a pundit’s mind blows, it makes the exact same sound as when you pop bubble wrap.
Neither Trump nor Sanders defy gravity laws.
Primaries are about the base of the Party.
Sanders more perfectly represents the Democrat base than the oh so imperfect Clinton. Once Warren gets in the race, the Dems will have their mainstream party Marxist and their nomination will be set.
I don’t think Trump represents the base that well. He says the right things but there is a disconnect between his words and actions. A prime example is Trump having an uber history of exploiting the Crony system the base despises.
If the base were examining Trump as the next cog in the wheel that truly represents the base, Trump doesn’t quite fit.
That said, the base of the GOP have been beaten and bruised by their party. We know the game has been rigged to clear the deck for El Jefe. We’ve seen this game before (we gamed the system to get the establishment guy nominated now the lessor of the two evils means all our base belongs to us). We’ve also seen the opposite, where our guys are nominated and then left for dead in the General by the Establishment.
Trump is the base of the GOP refusing to play ball. “No, Lucy, I’ll be damned if I kick that ball!”
For many supporters, Trump is a murder weapon and the GOP establishment is the intended victim (from the interwebs). For those supporters, it matters little what Trump says or does on any given day. In fact, it’s the height of hypocrisy for the estsblishmrnent to point out that Trump isn’t whom he says he is.
Trump is the base of the GOP trying to win its primary as well.
The GOPe has done such a great job of screwing over its base that what all the pundits are really scratching their heads over is why it’s not working this time.
It doesn’t require suspending the laws of gravity to figure out what’s going on here. In both parties, the gesture you’re seeing from the base to the anointed ones is only a metaphorical bird.
IMHO the imminent battle over ratifying the TPP is only going to boost Trump further.
He and Sanders are the only ones likely to outright oppose it.
What is blowing the minds of The Ministry Of Propaganda is that their propaganda is not working.
The Democrats represent the illegal aliens.
The GOP represents their employers.
No one has been representing the citizens.
Enter Trump
No one has been representing the citizens.
Enter Trump...
That's powerful Lurkinanloomin...
Bernie is not Hillary and Trump is not the GOPe. Simple as that.
maybe you have a grand to risk, but I have been surviving
in the Bush-Obama economy for the past 10 years and do not have that kind of money to risk anymore.
AND I will not STFU.
As for going away, Only the Robinsons can force that so kiss my grits. to use an old TV saying.

It was your post that said, "I'm BETTING..." so I called your bluff.
You weren't betting, you were running your mouth.
Like so many posters that say I'll bet you... it's all good until someone calls the bluff.
"Ya shouldn't let your mouth take you somewhere your ass can't handle", and most folks from Mississippi know what that saying means.
I really don't care whether you go away or STFU, you proved that you are just a blowhard with no backing, a keyboard bigmouth, all hat...
Looks like you really put your foot in your mouth on that one.
Your bluff got called and you had to back down with your tail between your legs. Maybe next time, you will not say something you can’t back up.
I could be wrong on the details, but I think Trump has said that he used the laws to his advantage. If there is anything that would turn a "crony" against his own system, it would be things like Global Crossing and MF Global, where Democrat insiders like Terry McAuliffe and Jon Corzine profited with no force of law being applied to them. Throw in Fannie Mae Jannie Gorelick and Franklin Raines for good measure.
It's one thing to operate within the law to one's advantage; it's quite another thing to operate knowing that the law will never be applied to you.
