Speaker John Boehner postponed the election of majority leader and majority whip until next month, a blow to Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) who announced Sunday night he had the votes to win the race.
The House Republican Conference will still choose its nominee for speaker of the House Thursday, and the full chamber will vote on the next speaker on Oct. 29.
This could help take some of the pressure off House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), the favorite to replace Boehner. The delay gives more time for conservatives to find a candidate to run against Scalise and Georgia Rep. Tom Price.

Uh oh! Is he afraid that McCarthy won’t have the votes?
Boner just can’t stop trying to manipulate things to suit his personal preferences, no matter what other House members might think and least of all what the Republican voters might think.
Why is Boehner still involved ?
Is he afraid that McCarthy wont have the votes?

An unfounded concern. Boehner can rest assured that the Stupid Party will still probably go ahead and elect McCarthy speaker anyhow.
Either McCarthy doesn’t have votes or Obama has unfinished business.
and least of all what the Republican voters might think

It should be pretty obvious by now that neither Boehner nor his party gives a rat’s behind what the Republican voters think. Each cycle the GOP runs roughshod over its base and stabs them in the back. We’ve seen this same old movie again and again.
Why can’t you guys in the House just take the gavel out of his hands, and escort him out side the building?
Your suppose to be doing the ‘people’s work’ so get off your fat lazy butts and do it!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why doesn’t someone just lock his office door and ignore him.?
It’s possible that the man who just gave Hillary a potential big bump in the polls and has given her the gift of victimhood has become a liability.
Though with these guys, I wonder if they understand how mindnumbingly STUPID McCarthy is.
He may be postponing so that the establishment can offer leadership positions and committee chairs to all their favorites. Those people all have buddies and allies, and with those people all lined up, will present a bloc that will, he hopes, prevent an uprising from the crazies. His plans must be thwarted. Anyone who emerges as a good conservative alternative needs to get his own leadership team lined up, with his own chairmen and lieutenants. Get a solid group that is enough to thwart the progressive wing and don't give in to them.
The real question is probably whether Boner is now doing the bidding of past major campaign contributors or some prospective K street employer and their clients.
It’s to keep the conservatives from using the Speaker vote for leverage on other Leadership posts that may be vacated.
The RINOs may give conservatives a good Majority Leader in exchange for supporting the upcoming budget Kabuki to give the Dem/RINOs everything they want after Obama vetoes the reconciliation bill.
After the spending is increased and the debt limit raised there isn’t much that can be done this session anyway.
I appreciate your point but it really doesn’t matter why Boehner and company do what they do. The “why” isn’t all that important IMO. The fundamental heart of the issue is that they repeatedly promise to do things but don’t ever do them. They have a list of excuses a mile long and the real reasons for their political treachery are probably manifold. And even worse is their hubris and arrogance knowing that they get away with it so easily.
Yes, Boehner is gone but the culture of duplicity is still there.
Results are what matter. And they don’t produce anything but pathetic excuses. How people continue to vote for such fraud and failure is beyond me.

When spending goes up my voting goes down. ;)
“His boy screwed the pooch with his stupid remarks last week. What a moron.”
Maintaining on TV that the Benghazi hearings were political theater to drive down Shillary’s numbers, shagging Renee Ellmers, and being on the Chamber of Corruption’s speed dial list is not what I was thinking of when I have dreamed of a new speaker. We might as well send Boehner to a dry out tank for a few weeks and then keep him on the job.
This is absolutely pathetic.
I'd say the why matters above all else. Many Republicans repeatedly say one thing during their reelection campaigns, then do something very different once they've won another term. I think most believe correctly that they are dancing to the tune of major donors and pushing or opposing legislation based on what those major donors desire.
The more voters who understand that 'why", the better. We might at some point see more representives elected who will actually listen to the majority of voters rather than the biggest donors.
The more voters who understand that ‘why”, the better.

Again, I see and respect your point of view. But consider the case of someone who works for you (which is relevant to voters because their representatives supposedly work for them). When that person fails to meet performance expectations, it doesn’t matter what their excuse is. And believe me they will have plenty of them. With all due respect, I’m not interested in wasting my time listening to a litany of excuses and false promises. Failure should not be rewarded and the accompanying excuses and rationalizations are just a waste of time.
For me, the “why” is just a side issue and a distraction. Politicians will always have an elaborate excuse and they are, if nothing else, expert spin masters who will only confuse the voters.
Politicians have myriad motivations for doing what they do; it all can become a confusing mess after awhile and they are very good at putting up smoke screens, especially right before elections.
What is crystal clear and easily discerned, however, is that many of them are not doing what they were elected to do. That is what I focus on. But I respect that you have a different take than I do. That’s what makes the world go around.
Regards.
Further proof that when the outcome is UNKNOWN or UNDESIRABLE they DO NOTHING.
