Final-stretch talks on huge TPP trade deal open in Atlanta (U.S. Sovereignty Forfeit Alert)

Trade ministers from the United States, Japan and 10 other Pacific Rim countries opened final-stretch negotiations Wednesday trying to seal a deal on the world's largest free-trade pact, the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Ministers are under pressure to bridge differences over a handful of key issues which prevented an agreement during top-level talks in Hawaii in July.

The stakes were high for many, with farm and pharmaceutical industry lobbyists from various countries and civil society activists gathered at the same Atlanta hotel to defend their interests.

And as the ministers began meeting Wednesday, a handful of protestors marched through the lobby of the hotel chanting "No TPP! Stop Corporate Greed."

Time is also a source of stress for negotiators. Washington, the main driver behind the pact since discussions began in 2008, wants a deal soon to avoid having to ratify it at the height of the 2016 presidential and congressional election campaigns.

While ratification of the TPP is presumed in many of the 12 countries, in the United States it remains a potential challenge. A senior senator, Orrin Hatch, sent a sharp warning Wednesday that the administration of President Barack Obama should not give away too much.

“No one -- at least no one from our side of the negotiations -- should be in a hurry to close talks if it means getting a less-than-optimal result for our country.... If the agreement falls short, I will not support it."

- Largest free-trade zone -

If completed, the TPP would form the world's largest free trade region, its members comprising about 40 percent of the global economy -- Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the United States and Vietnam.

Why is Obama pushing this? If completed, the TPP would form the world's largest free trade region, comprising about 40 percent of the global economy -- Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the US and Vietnam.

Donald Trump asserts US trade deals are ruining our nation...
says its NOT stupidity....Trump says pols have been bribed.
Trump doesn't know how right he really is.

NOW ISN'T THIS INTERESTING? few, if any, of the RCEP and
TPP countries contributed to the buck-raking Clinton Foundation.

Looks like the Clintons and Obama divvied up the globe so that each have their own countries in order to collect big buck get-rich-quick foundation donations, honorarium, cosultancies, and int'l insider business deals.

======================================

THE FACTS ARE THESE Obama's trade deal giveaway is a huge scam...best examined against the backdrop of Obama's two tax- exempt foundations (two-that we know of).

Obama's priming the pump for donations to his two Foundations. All of it--- TPA and TPP--Obama's immigration suck-ups--- his non-action WRT ISIS, IRAN--- are best understood against the backdrop of Obama's future plans as an ex- president----more specifically, his two get-rich-quick Foundations (two foundations that we know of).

The aforementioned entities control billions of dollars---and Obama is lying- in-wait for his share.

===================================================

WIKI REFERENCE: Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) is a proposed free trade agreement (FTA) between the ten member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (Brunei, Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam) and the six states with which ASEAN has existing FTAs (Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand). RCEP negotiations were formally launched in November 2012 at the ASEAN Summit in Cambodia.

Yep and remember too.

The Free Trade is only for these countries. U.S. will stay pay tarriffs to them, and U.S. Companies will be subject to carbon taxes and other regulations while at the very same time other contries are not.

It’s horrible deal for the United States. It’s a Win for the other countries and a loss for the United States.

It’s horrible deal for the US....a Win for the other countries......and a loss for the US.

And a get-rich-quick plan for Obama.....

My, my, my....I can see the Obama Foundation letters now....reminding
these countries of Obama's generosity, and hundreds of thousands of
"$ugge$tion$" on repaying Obama for his assistance.

We should thank Cruz and his senate colleagues for this.

And Mr. Conservative Ted Cruz (the only consistent conservative in the race, it is alleged) jumped in and voted for it (TPA) to get it going, then dropped out when his vote was not needed so he could campaign against it.

He also campaigns against the Corker bill, after he voted for it.

Well, as I have said before, if this comes up for a vote before the primaries Ted Cruz is finished as a candidate for the presidency. Ted better hope TPP and the other even more secret deals, do not get finalized until after super Tuesday.

"We should thank Cruz"

No, you should thank Reagan, GHW Bush, and GW Bush who have been the prime mover behind previous FTAs.

FTAs became the choice for US trade policy because the US lost its competitive edge at multilateral trade via WTO.

TPP is the first FTA negotiated by a dem and the biggest objectors are the unions because all FTAs have to balance the protections for the investors(like in NAFTA Chap 11) versus protections for labor, environment, etc.

Others object because disputes within an FTA are resolved by the arbitration panel and those arbitration panel rulings have the force to override domestic regulations, which means the arbitration panel is creating regulations(law) that applies to the US. Do a Google search of "Investor-State Law".

And you are suggesting NAFTA and these other free trade agreements are good for the US? I strongly disagree.

You do know that Reagan told Japan and European car companies they can avoid tariffs if they build your car plants here in the United States?

Reagan used tariffs as advantage to bring jobs to the United States. Guess what Toyotta, BMW, etc... all came here.

All trade creates winners and losers, but FTAs create far more winners than losers.

You and others focus on the losers, ignore the winners, and condemn the FTA(NAFTA).

If you make a living operating a sewing machine, NAFTA is bad.

But if you work in intellectual property, insurance, banking, corn, wheat, or electric motors NAFTA is good.

Likewise, if you live in a state that imports more NAFTA goods than it exports, your state is at a dis-advantage. But if you live in TX, CA, AZ, etc, NAFTA is good.

You can look at it from the other side as well. If you are a Mexican corn farmer, NAFTA is bad. But if you are growing winter vegetables in Mexico, NAFTA is good.

That's looking at it from the producers point of view. The cheap US corn is detrimental to corn farmers in Mexico, but consumers in Mexico get cheaper tortillas. Likewise, US consumers benefit from cheaper imports.

Reagan used tariffs to bring jobs to the US....Toyota, BMW, etc, all came here.

I can still hear candidate Obama back in 2008.....well-coached to dupe the electorate......saying he wanted to be "another Reagan."

That's a good point to make but you are missing the more important point.

Mexico has more FTAs than any other country so an auto manufacturer in Mexico can reach 68% of the world market without a tariff.

The BMW plant in the US has to pay a tariff to ship that BMW to Europe, and the tariff is higher than the labor cost to build it. If BMW had built that plant in Mexico, they could ship it to Euirope without a tariff. Which is why the next FTA will be the Transatlantic Partnership.

Free trade is only good IF everyone is playing by the same rules. Right now here are the facts.

1) The United States STILL PAYS TARIFFS while at the very same time China and Mexico do not. How is that not rigged?

2) China can manipulate currency with no type of punishment. How is that not rigged?

3) China, Mexico and the rest of the world are exempt from federal regulations while U.S. companies have to comply ONLY in the United States. How is that not rigged?

4) United States companies pay a higher capital gains in order to encourage them to leave the United States. That way we can import lower prices. How is that not rigged?

5) We import Engineers from China and India to replace American workers at lower cost. Google what Disney did recently to their I.T. department. The American workers had to train their foreign replacements , here in the United States for 1/3 the cost. While at the same time we export Engineer students from M.I.T., Georgia Tech, etc... to places like China and India. How is that not rigged?

6) In addition we now have open borders(never done before until this year, and allow illegal immigrants to welfare, free housing, free health care and free education. No other country in the world does this except us. This is being done in order to drive wages down. How is that not rigged?

This is what guys like Obama, the Bush’s and the Clinton’s think is great for America.

If you are still not certain, then ask yourself this question?

Was the United States a stronger country with tariffs from 1945 to 1996 with tariffs compared to 1997 to 2015 without tariffs?

Everything you said in #15 is mis-info.

#1) We don't have a FTA with China. The tariffs with Mexico and Canada fell in an orderly fashion, as they were negotiated.

#2) We don't have an FTA with China and manipulating the currency has nothing to do with an FTA.

#3) We don't have an FTA with China. As for the federal regulations with Mex and Can, that is all subject to the agreement and arbitrated by the panel. Back in the 90s there were many disputes over regs that were resolved. Remember when the US tried to impose regulations on Mexican trucks that they didn't impose on US and Canadian trucks? We lost that one. The US company MetalClad won the dispute over their Mexican plant. The Canadian company Methanex lost to California in their dispute. The US lost the dispute over Canadian sofwoods. But thru time the body of law is built and disputes taper off.

#5) We don't have FTAs with China and India. But under NAFTA, companies are allowed to send key employees with their investment and they are not subject to H1B quotas. The same thing applies to US companies building plants in Mexico, They send management/tech people that are allowed into Mexico, irregardless of Mexico's immigration policy.

#6) Open borders don't have anything to do with NAFTA.

I noticed you failed to answer the following question below. I know.... It’s because deep down inside YOU KNOW..., I’m right.

Was the United States a stronger country with tariffs from 1945 to 1996 with tariffs compared to 1997 to 2015 without tariffs?

Man.... I don’t know who feeding you so much lies, deceit, tricks and BullS..t?????

Your mind is completely brainwashed from thieves and people that have ill Will, malicious intent to create, harm and have maximum impact, to the ultimate destruction the United States. You are listening to thieves that want to ship out all our jobs to hell holes like Mexico and China for the slave labor. How moral is that?

All for quick buck, temporary short term gains and long term slow degeneration to your fellow countrymen like a cancer that has metastasized throughout our Republic.

You need to be backing Bernie Sanders for Prez.

I'm curious to know who you blame? Reagan, Bush1, or Bush2.

Reagan and Bush1 did Nafta. Bush2 did CAFTA. Back in those days the third part of NAFTA and CAFTA was the Free Trade Agreement of the Americas(FTAA). But South America never could resolve their dis-agreements so FTAA has been on hold since.

A lot of people don't know, but Reagan first put in place the Caribbean Basin Initiative which was mostly like the Maquilladoras agreement with Mexico which was harmonizing tariffs and it would be replaced with CAFTA under Bush2

Whatever about Sanders.

I’m hoping for a Trump/Cruz 2016.

Even Cruz says the TPP is bad that you love.

Obviously you are a Bushbot that’s in the Jebby camp. LOL!

Like I though too you can’t answer the following question,

“Was the United States a stronger country with tariffs from 1945 to 1996 with tariffs compared to 1997 to 2015 without tariffs?”

Because YOU KNOW... I’m right.

Regan has nothing to do with that rigged trade agreements you Bushbots love.

I even gave you an example in the previous post of Reagan using Tariffs to bring jobs here.

I guess we will just have wait and see if Congress ratifies.

There's always a possibility that the dems could kill it, if the unions and enviros don't approve

There are a lot of freaky rightwingers who support FTAs but are mad that Obama was given fast track authority. So when you see a freeper complaining about TPP, he may be actually complaining about Obama.
