Why Obama Is Powerless To Reform Gun Laws (Its The 2nd Amendment, Stupid Alert)

And those victorious Republican candidates are selected in primaries where the financial support of deep-pocketed pro-gun lobbying groups like the National Rifle Association can prove decisive and the voters who turn out are the kind of conservatives who don't take kindly to a candidate in favour of greater restrictions on gun ownership.

It's a political environment where Republican officeholders face grassroot challenges if they're deemed insufficiently conservative but never if they're not moderate enough.

Congress isn't just against high-profile gun regulation - even measures supported by a large majority of the American people - it also prohibits federal efforts to conduct research on the causes of gun violence. So what's the way forward?

"This is a political choice that we make to allow this to happen every few months in America," Mr Obama said in Thursday's press conference. "If you think this is a problem, then you should expect your elected officials to reflect your views."

uring the 2014 mid-term elections, just 36% of eligible voters went to the polls. And more of them, at least in states and congressional districts where it counts, voted for Republican candidates picked in primaries by just 9.5% of US registered voters.

In the US today, it's the gun-control views of that 9.5% that make the difference.

It is, in fact, the only legitimate gun law in the entire country.

I see the whole gun control agenda by the left as NOT a frontal assault on the Second Amendment, but by a much lower level assault using individual states’ own gun purchase/license laws against us.

The first substantive thing they can do is to modify the NICS system to include all sorts of new descriptors - health conditions, mental conditions, misdemeanor infractions, etc.

There are several possible avenues. The Federal Government (via EO, Memoranda, regulation or edict) could push down report-up to NICS by threatening to withhold funding grants, etc. Another option is through Obamacare. By regulation of HHS Director’s Discretion (all throughout the law), require all doctors, pharmacies, insurance companies to report all sorts of things - SSRI use, guns in home, doctors’ impressions of stability....

In effect then, NICS becomes the national tattletale clearing house who will kick back a “no recommend” to the gun dealer who will deny the purchase. Then later when the state and local authorities are properly conditions, the Fed will start pushing requirements down to them to confiscate based on ‘danger’.....

It’s coming folks.

Obama won’t even enforce existing laws.
