Russian air strikes followed by massive Syrian ground operations

Russia’s first airstrikes in Syria have been followed immediately by a series of major Syrian army ground operations targeting rebel positions, including in some areas not controlled by ISIS.

The information furthers reports from U.S. officials that the Russian strikes on Wednesday targeted U.S.-backed rebels in Syrian neighborhoods where the rebels have received CIA arms, funding and training.

Russia has insisted it only targeted ISIS positions. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly that the Russian air forces are working in conjunction with the Syria military to “exclusively” target ISIS.

“Rumors that the targets of these strikes were not [ISIS] positions were groundless,” Lavrov stated.

A Russian Defense Ministry statement said the Russian air force targeted and destroyed eight positions belonging to ISIS on Wednesday. An additional statement on the ministry’s website says “four more ISIS facilities” were targeted late at night.

“Su-24M and Su-25 aircraft performed 8 sorties eliminating the staff of terrorist groupings and an ammunition depot near Idlib as well as a three-level HQ centre near Hamah,” read the statement.

“As a result of pinpoint bomb attack, a plant aimed for preparation of cars for explosion located in the north of Homs is completely destroyed,” the statement read.

French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian disputed the Russian claims of only targeting ISIS, telling lawmakers in Paris: “Curiously, they didn’t hit Islamic State. I will let you draw a certain number of conclusions yourselves.”

What can be learned is that this fighting/rivalry gone on for thousands of years between Sunni and Shiite and will never end. Superpowers’ intervention will NEVER solve the difference between factions until starving to death. Egypt is trying!!!

And I hope you are right. This is a stupid fight with only losers.

Look at the bomb reports.

http://www.defense.gov/News-Article-View/Article/617106/coalition-airstrikes-hit-isil-in-syria-iraq

Excavator destroyed
Bulldozer destroyed
sniper position
motorcycle... a motorcycle?
machine gun
etc.

Crude oil collection point? I’m doubtful it was very significant. Probably a gas can.

The A-10 boys are supposedly out hunting targets and airplanes are being shot at and hit sometimes.

Stupid.

And we will not do one thing to change the centuries old rivalries. Syria was created by the super powers of the day out of a rabble of tribes that hate each other. Pretty much the same thing goes for the rest of the ME.

We will never change their hatred for each other. They are not suited for either democracy or a republic. The only thing that works there is a DICTATORSHIP. Long live the DICTATORSHIPS of the ME! Keep the oil flowing until we finally figure out something else to run the free world. HOw those people live, or how any other people live is not our business and never has been. We need to clean around our own back doors and only respond to threats to how we live.

Time to stop being the goody two shoes to the world. We don’t need to export obesity, dependence and immature children to the rest of the world.

If Barry had had his way Syria would end up like Libya, a BIG chaos as he created in the rest of the M.E. Putin does NOT want the muzzie into his own country, and who can blame him!!!

That’s a good one! LOL! I bet you’re absolutely right.

Also “Near Huwayjah, an airstrike destroyed three ISIL trenches”. Sounds like a couple of ditches.

I think you are correct. Some of us didn’t understand keeping Saddam in power at the time.

The second pass to take him out was a mistake.

We have no business “protecting human rights” and telling others how to run their own countries. Sad but true. It has never worked out. Unless we are committed to occupy, control and just flat take over it is a fool’s errand to try to “spread freedom and democracy for all”. Blech.

Looks to me he was a huge buffer for us to keep Iran in check and on the “carpet”. I agree with you a BIG, BIG mistake taking him out like Gadhafi who was no threat to us. Killary/Jezebel’s only accomplishment making total chaos in Libya and Benghazi-Gate is the hottest potato for Barry to be exposed. The falling of Syria will create similar chaos there, likewise most of the M.E. spun out of the Cairo speech !!!

If only Bush-43 had left Saddam alone, Iraq would not be in total chaos, Libya would not be ruled by Islamo-Fascists, ditto with Yemen and Sudan. We got lucky in Egypt, when military deposed Muslim Brotherhood regime in spite of Oh-bum-ah’s protests.

Yes, we got very lucky in Egypt.

Notice how Israel is getting cozy with Russia? They don’t have a choice. It looks like the balance of power is shifting now for the first time since WWI.

dungo did it by intention or ignorance but I think it is shifting. The whabis may not last much longer. There are some who said that saudi will not last no matter what happens.
