The first opera I ever saw live was the opening night of the opening season of the Boston Opera Company with Sarah Caldwell conducting, in her wide, glorious splendor! Iy was as Kresge Auditorium at MIT and was a wonderful production of The Flying Dutchman..
The next one I saw was Faust, a Met Touring production at the ugly Hynes Auditorium.
That is, of course, not counting the many D’Oyly Carte productions my daddy to me to when I was a child.
Wow...I really overslept this morning!
Wow! You’re just up? I imagine you needed the rest, though! :)
Well, I already walked and fed the dog, had breakfast, took my vitamins, and started some curried lentils on the stove (an all-day affair).
I have to make my own Indian food now because, for some bizarre reason, all my good Hindu neighbors are certifying “Halal” in their restaurants.
Although I am under no illusions that, prior to this egregious treason against their own faith and culture, the food had been sacrificed to Ganesh, but I just followed the dictum of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and grew to LOVE Indian food.
However, once the obscene “Halal” Squiggle appears on the door, I refuse to eat there.
It’s against my religion.
Good for you standing your ground even if you have to sacrifice good food!
I’ll bet your version is yummy!
((HUGS))Good morning, LUV W. How’s it going?
Here goes:
Soak lentils (or split pigeon-peas, or chick-peas) over night.
Fry up an onion in butter, ghee, or the lo-fat alternative, OLIVE OIL.
Add the soaked beans and saute till all the beans are coated.
Add crystallized Sea Salt, garlic, and black pepper, tomato paste, and water, and bring to a boil.
If ya got some left-over (non-halal) meat, throw it in.
Simmer for several hours till thick, and add the curry powder of your choice towards the end, as it loses some of its mojo if cooked too long.
Serve over jasmine or brown rice.
mmmm mmmm mmmm
