Republican attempts to recruit a well-known challenger for a Colorado Senate race suffered a setback Wednesday when a prominent prosecutor said he wouldnt run against Democrat Michael Bennet.
George Brauchler, lead prosecutor in the case against convicted Colorado theater shooter James Holmes, responds to questions during an interview Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, in Centennial, Colo. Brauchler said that the jury's refusal to sentence Holmes to die for one of the worst massacres in the country's history does not mean the public is growing wary of capital punishment because only a single juror blocked the execution. (AP Photo/David Zalubowski)Arapahoe County District Attorney George Brauchler announced by email Wednesday that he has decided not to challenge Bennet after weeks of publicly pondering a candidacy. Brauchler would have been a clear front-runner.
Republicans have failed to recruit a prominent challenger to the states senior senator, and the Colorado seat is key for the partys hopes to hold onto the Senate in the 2016 elections.
Despite the overwhelming support and encouragement that I received over the past few weeks, I have decided that now is not the right time for me and my family for me to make a run, Brauchler said in an email to supporters.

Bad news on the election front. Too bad. There are three Republicans running who have some potential, but few prospects in terms of fundraising or name I.D.

Don’t be fooled by this. State Sen. Tim Neville is in the race. He’s a great conservative who wins in an evenly divided district in the most important swing county in the State. Tim is probably the reason Brauchler didn’t enter the race. He probably can’t beat Tim in a primary.
I don’t know anything about Tim Neville. What can you tell FR about him?
Forgive me, but I'm a little gun shy about great conservatives. Last cycle, that's what we were told about Gardner. So far he hasn't voted any different than his predecessor.
Neville looks like just another urban front ranger from a flakey family.
Tim was elected in a swing district in Jeffco in 2014. He has actually been in the State Senate twice. The first time, he was elected by a vacancy committee when Mike Kopp resigned. The Supreme Court then drew a district that deliberately removed him from that seat. So he ran again in 2014 and beat gun-grabber incumbent Jeanne Nicholson in a 50/50 district. He ran about 5% points better than Cory Gardner in his District despite that his district is about the same breakdown as the whole State. I think there were close to $2 million spent in that race. It was the highest profile State Senate race in CO last year.
In both Senate terms, he had one of the best voting records in the state senate (from a conservative viewpoint). Great CUT scores and Principles of Liberty score. He manages to be very conservative but with a smile on his face. Does a good job talking to independents without compromising his principles. Very hard worker. I can’t say enough good things about him.
IMO, he would be a great US Senator.

I’m gun shy about them too. But noone ever thought Gardner was even a conservative, let alone a great one.
Regarding Sen Neville’s voting record, check out my post 6 on this thread. I guarantee the NRSC and the party establishment is frantically recruiting moderates to run against Sen Neville at this moment.
Regarding his family, Tim’s son Patrick is a state representative, his sister-in-law is on the Jefferson County school board, and his other son is one of the savvyist political strategists I have ever met (until recently, he ran much of the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners organization in CO). So I’m not sure how you get flakey out of that. Take another look. Sen. Neville is pretty impressive.
I suspect 99% of FReepers will be delighted with his performance as a US Senator. The other 1% are trolls :)
BTW, I’m not on Sen Neville’s campaign or anything. He’s my state senator and I’m heavily involved in Republican politics here in Jeffco. So I’ve had the chance to see him up close for quite a while.
kitchen: From the Durango Herald today about Sen Neville.
“Neville, 59, has long upheld conservative values, including opposing gun control and abortion, while upholding religious freedom. This year at the Legislature, he raised concerns about vaccinations and student assessments. Neville also comes from a well-known political family with powerful ties, including to Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, which has a strong record of winning divisive Republican primaries in Colorado.
...
“Left-leaning interests were quick to pounce on Neville, suggesting that he is one of the states most dangerous far-right politicians.
Tim Nevilles candidacy should be a wake-up call to everyone with an interest in a better Colorado, said Amy Runyon-Harms, executive director of ProgressNow Colorado.”
Hes a leader of one of the most powerful factions in the Colorado Republican Party today, and his ability to mobilize the Republican grass-roots in a primary makes him a threat.
Too bad, and I doubt it has anything to do with some State Senator who sponsored a bill letting parents not vaccinate their kids running. That sounds like a guy who might get his A kicked in November.
Gardner votes the same as the 100% communist punk democrat Udall did? That sounds like hyperbolic horse doodie to me.
Colorado Ping ( Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list.)
Thanks george
“Gardner votes the same as the 100% communist punk democrat Udall did? That sounds like hyperbolic horse doodie to me”.
You’re right-it is.
American Conservative Union Ratings:
CO U.S. Senate Sr Michael Bennet Democratic 4%
CO U.S. Senate Jr Cory Gardner Republican 92%
laplata, I'll value your opinion on things Colorado, eastern foreigners not so much.
“eastern foreigners “
LMAO, are you talking about me? I can be living next door to you or in GD Mongolia and it doesn’t change the facts of Senator’s voting record bud. If you wanna say Cory has disappointed you with a couple votes, ok. If you say he’s THE SAME as UDALL that’s some equine diarrhea right there.
I believe that rating was the latest the ACU put out.
I just wanted to let you see the rating. I’m in total agreement that he is more RINO than he portrayed himself during the campaign.
Thanks for the confidence.
Regards to you.
