DAVENPORT | Republican presidential hopeful Marco Rubio told a Davenport audience Thursday night hes no establishment candidate.
The first-term U.S. senator from Florida appeared before hundreds of people, crowded into a room at Modern Woodmen Park, criticizing federal government for overregulation, its role in education and the Affordable Care Act that he says raises costs and costs jobs.
He also answered a question about how he might convince people that hes not an establishment candidate. Voter disaffection this year has given rise to outsider candidates rising to the top of the polls.
Rubio pointed to his win in the 2010 Senate race as evidence he is not part of that crowd.
The establishment worked actively to try to undermine my candidacy for Senate and the establishment is not supporting me for president now, he said.
The truth of the matter is when I decided to run for the presidency, all of the same people that told me not to run for the Senate came out of the woodwork again and said its not your turn. You havent been around long enough. Were all going to line up behind somebody else, he added.
Rubio has been getting a lot of buzz since the debate last week in California, and a new Quinnipiac University national poll Thursday said he is in fifth place, behind Donald Trump, Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina and Jeb Bush.
Earlier in the day, Rubio tangled with front-runner Trump. The two have traded barbs in recent days, and Rubio told Kentucky Sports Radio that Trump is not well informed on the issues and is a very touchy and insecure guy who takes shots at people when hes threatened politically.
Rubio steered mostly clear of the front-runner in Davenport, though he joked during his remarks that he was going to take a drink of water even though Donald Trump will make fun of me.
Trump had, on MSNBCs Morning Joe program earlier in the day poked at Rubio for sweating too much. Hes also called Rubio a lightweight."
Rubio, like the other Republican presidential candidates, said Thursday night the country is badly off course. And he complained that the debate last week, despite being three hours long, didnt even include a question about the federal debt.
He drew applause from the Quad-City crowd by lumping the state of Illinois into governments that have a debt crisis.
Rubio also reacted to Pope Francis visit to Washington, D.C., in which the pontiff called for action on climate change.
Rubio talked of the popes praise for the United States, but he added, Im not supporting any ideas that dont do anything to help our environment but will hurt the economy.
Afterward, Melody Ash, of Davenport, said she is 85 percent certain shed back Rubio in the caucuses.
He just says everything and it all makes sense, Ash said. He explains it thoroughly and he has a plan for everything.
“Marco Rubio says he’s ‘no establishment candidate’”

Oh yes he is.
Rubio is a bigger Weasel than he already is. He proved that with Chuck-U-Schumer.
So what is that? Trump in Dragnet?
But how does he say it in Spanish?
For someone who doesn’t think he is establishment, he sure seemed comfortable with the Gang of 8, while pushing their version of Comprehensive Immigration Reform through the Senate.
Rubio must have stolen Walker’s GOPe script.
Someone should tweet Trump
about what Rubio says in Spanish,
“In Spanish Interview, Marco Rubio Says Its Important Not To Cancel Obamas Execu Amnesty[4-18-15]”

Rubio is an Amnesty pimp.
Howdy Tex! Those white symbols at lower left corner are letters which spell words. It's an old form of communication.
Every time Rubio points to 2010, it makes Florida voters look like duped fools.
“Ash said. He explains it thoroughly and he has a plan for everything.
Including helping the invasion of this country.
“Those white symbols at lower left corner are letters which spell words. It’s an old form of communication.”
very funny! the picture too.
Ha ha. So then, side with the American tax payer and kick out invaders. No? Well f*** you then!
It will never be your turn. You've been around far too long -- please go away. I will line up behind almost anyone else.
If he is Pro-immigration, he is GOPe....
LOL! BookMarking for the great pic, and the even better explanation, FRiend.
