This can be used to gage the mood of people in different places and at different times, taking the temperature of the public mood. Are they getting mad enough to maybe do something. They know too much about us and we know to little about them. Knowledge is a weapon to these people.

Arrival of thought police (1984 book/movie) Sure, get monitored and when “they” (read as NSA, etc.), don’t like your thinking, plus they know where you are, they pick you up, saying, “Don’t worry, we will ‘fix’ you.” Suddenly, your guns are gone, stored food, if you have it, is gone since you are a ‘hoarder’, etc.., and you’re lucky if you’re still around a day later.
1984 gets closer and closer.

Actually, that has been the object of our Government for years now: discover and overcome any hint at all of domestic rebellion. The whole business about massive communications monitoring, the exercises conducted with our country involving Homeland Security and our armed forces, even the weird training doctrine within the army about "Tea Party insurrections" all point to a Government reorienting itself to stifle any incipient dissent.
Now that they have the technologies to support these efforts, they are rigidizing their power for now and forever.

That's the whole reason for the "Universal Background Checks": once the Left pulls that one off, they will start tightening the net. Fairly soon, they will make it impossible for almost all of us to get cleared to buy - or possess - firearms.
Why do you think that is such a strongly-supported goal?
