Sir, you want EVERYBODY to be POOR because that is what SOME interpret as the MOST loved and favored by God. If we are all oppressed and all the lowliest most humble folks, then God will automatically accept our souls into heaven when we die.

The heyday of the Roman Church was when the peasants were ignorant and poor. Even then, that church would take their last coin to buy salvation from wealthy priests. Francis wants a return to those days.
If the Pope gets to make pronouncements on science, then scientist should start making pronouncements on religion.

The glory days of the Catholic church were when they were the only functioning institution left in the West.
Once other institutions grew to the point of being able to successfully challenge that, they have been fighting ever since.
