Russia warned on Wednesday that it will rebuild its nuclear presence in Europe if the US carries out plans to extend its nuclear arsenal in Germany.

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman warned that Russia would be forced to re-establish “strategic balance” if the US carries out plans recently reported in the German media to strengthen its nuclear arsenal in Germany, reports Spiegel.

According to a report by broadcaster ZDF published on Monday, preparations are currently underway at the Büchel military base in Rhineland-Palatinate to station 20 new nuclear bombs there.

The broadcaster claims to have seen copies of the American budget which prove that the new Type B 61-12 atomic bomb will be stored at the base and German bombers will be equipped to carry them.

In the event a nuclear attack, German pilots would fly the bombers as part of NATO’s “nuclear participation” strategy. …

Since when have German planes carried American nukes? Sounds like a bogus story altogether.

The US never confirmed having nuclear weapons outside the US. Poutie is blowing smoke again.

Well, Spiegel has been known to play fast and loose with the truth, and I don’t know what ZDF’s reputation is, but this does not sound like something Obama would not do.

What ZDF hinted at...is that renovation took place and it can only be renovation at a weapons depot which would encourage or allow the new style 61-12 nuke to be deposited there. Course, if you had money to waste or spend, and some idiot just said ‘lets update this weapons depot’, and the end result was X...it doesn’t mean a single nuke is stored there. The journalists seem to think if you renovate something....you are going to fill it up with something afterwards.

I would agree....Obama wouldn’t normally go and do something like this....unless he wanted some big fuss and trigger German journalists to question the reason for NATO existing.

The Russians are an odd lot. They are deeply offended that those nations they conquered, dominated, and stripped of wealth for almost 50 years do not *appreciate* that domination.

The Russian attitude is that they should be *grateful* to Russia for having raped them, much like a jealous, domineering, violent and abusive husband resents that their ex-wife rejects them, has a restraining order against him and wants to arm herself in case he returns in a drunken rage.

“[long string of abusive epithets]... If you get a gun, I’ll beat the HELL out of you when I come back, you [expletives]! How DARE you threaten to protect yourself from me! You ungrateful [expletives]! After all I’ve done for you! Without me you would be nothing, you [expletives]!”

Oh, heck yes. Now that is a way to stop somebody from arming themselves.

What precisely is “normal” behavior for Obama? How predictable was the Iran nuke “deal” for one big example?

Like TNR noted back in 2007, the man is solely about power and self-interest.

The EU has pushed for a unified armed force since its inception, as well. It would be folly to presume that nothing has come of their desire.

Russia warned on Wednesday that it will rebuild its nuclear presence in Europe

It’s curious to me, does this mean Russia HAD nuclear weapons in Europe before? Where?

Maybe they’ll start rebuilding their nuclear presence
in Cuber soon too.
