Fiorina’s resume disqualifies her
NY Daily News ^ | 9/21/15 | Richard Cohen

Posted on 09/22/2015 6:57:50 AM PDT by jimbo123

I want to say something about Carly Fiorina right at the outset: I don’t care if she was a brilliant or awful CEO of Hewlett-Packard. I don’t care if her firing was justified or the work of mean old men. I don’t care if she increased cash flow and doubled revenues or whether those are misleading indicators — which, as it happens, they are. What matters most is that being a CEO has nothing to do with being President.

-snip-

But all she had going for her is that she was once the CEO of Hewlett-Packard. During her tenure, the stock plummeted 55%, and while some of that could be attributed to hard times in Silicon Valley, the board of directors did not agree. They fired her.

Here we have the salient fact. Fiorina tries to make the case that she was a whiz of a corporate chief and she has, of course, her own set of numbers to try to prove the point — including that doubling of revenues. (Yes, by buying Compaq.) What matters most, though, is that she could not get along with her own board. It canned her — and the vote was not close. No one supported her.

Now, that says something. It says that she lacks the one quality most essential in a politician, especially a President — the ability to persuade others, especially your opponents, to go along. For much of his presidency, Barack Obama has lacked that ability — or failed to exercise it. Washington would be a fetid and poisonous place anyway, but Obama has not made it any better.

Ridiculous.
Steve jobs was also tossed out by the board of Apple computer.

It’s not disqualifying for a business owner to go bankrupt either, it’s normal for even good ones for some of their ventures.

I’m not a supporter of her though

She’s a great debator. But her resume sucks crap.

She loses a U.S. Senate then moves to the DC Beltway.

Just like Santorum.

Carly sucks. Just another open borders feminist RINO, and a failure at business. Will never vote for her botox sour face.

The thing that pisses me off about her explanations is that she relies on half truths. Given enough inventory, if I sell brand new Ferraris for $30,000, I could probably double my car dealership revenues. Of course, my bottom line would be crushed and that's my point: She brags about doubling revenues, but fails to point out that profits when into the toilet during the process. HP stock dove 52% under her tenure while the general market lost 15%. Finally, HP stock rose 7% in one day!...the day the Board announced she was being fired. She has the same track record at Lucent.

If she can't manage the relatively simple micro economic decisions of running a firm, why do we expect her to be successful in designing macro economic policies for a significantly more complex set of problems? Her first step has to be to drop the ego and admit she screwed up at Lucent and HP and go from there. I don't want to see this Republic led by yet another pathological liar.

At the end of the day, she is better at debating version of Mitt Romney in high heels.

Has to be one of the stupidest statements ever committed to print.

Where are all these flippant “unqualified” comments coming from towards various candidates? Qualification is defined explicitly in the Constitution. It’s as bad as a professional journalist having their story go to print with grammar and spelling errors.

Thanks, I and probably many of us were not aware of this. Anyone opting to live in the Beltway is not worth consideration of a serious position!

Have we reached the point were nobody who has ever run a business can run for public office?

This time, an article by the liberal Richard Cohen.

This is quite a jihad you’re waging against Fiorina.
