Lets begin with the late Andrew Breitbarts often repeated quote: "Politics is downstream from culture." Meaning, culture influences politics, not the reverse and until conservatives figure out a way to take the culture back from the left, we cannot win.

It starts with language. They have hijacked words like “gay” and other verbiage that allows them to paints conservatives as boorish, racist, neanderthals to the great unwashed masses.
Good post, interesting take, not all positive nor all negative.
But the biggest laugh is watching the rights most ideological and angry embrace the partys least ideological candidate since forever.
To me, that's the biggest danger, not the biggest laugh, but point made.
We have too many people who think the best way to get a conservative government is to turn a blind eye to the facts that prove Trump isn’t a conservative. They want to just give up any scrutiny of his record, ignore his inexperience, turn his vices and gaffes into virtues (he’s great when he’s insulting people, that’s manly), and don’t even mention his personal lack of character. It’s the weirdest thing I’ve seen when the conservative movement decides it wants a liberal turned-conservative overnight to lead it.
I agree with his basic premise: it’s getting to be time for Trump to move past the sweeping cult of personality generalizations and delve into the details a bit. I think he’s got the brains to do it, just needs to study up a bit. His immigration plan was written by Jess Sessions; it answers all questions, but Trump doesn’t seem to have committed it to memory as of yet. There’s still time though . . .
You’re missing the bigger point: conservatives hate the direction of the country so much that they’re willing to take a risk on someone who might not deliver, but who they perceive is actually willing to fight.
It’s a dangerous time in politics. When people decide that they’d rather lose than see their opposition win, then you’re not too far from a Bosnia situation.
It is time for a winner who believes in America.
“...conservatives hate the direction of the country so much that theyre willing to take a risk on someone who might not deliver, but who they perceive is actually willing to fight...”
That’s a great point!
Ideological “purity” only exists in the lockstep Left. In any case, with America on the precipice, I am willing to settle for a president who is:
#1: Born and raised an American
#2: Loves America and the American people
#3: Stands up to our greatest enemy: The Media
#4: Can defeat the Democrats, which becomes more of a demographic impossibility with each passing day.
#5: Will close the borders
Works for me. Love Trump.
Is support for Trump an act of desperation? Yes, it is.
Whose fault is that?
"To me, that's the biggest danger, not the biggest laugh, but point made."
Agreed. I think Thomas Sowell said it, too.
Also, toward the end of the article:
"If a contestant says No, hire me first, before I prove myself, Donald would show him the door. Yet, thats his own strategy now, as he runs for president.
Hes saying, We got problems, and if you elect me Ill fix them. Ill hire the people. Thats not enough. Theres too much at risk to trust a promise like that."
He staked virgin territory that was there for the grabbing.
Are there any PC people on this forum? If there are, I've not encountered them.
Central, you're admitting that you're doing the exact thing Gutfeld described, and I excerpted. You're trusting a lifelong liberal with absolutely no record of conservatism, who suddenly SAYS he's a conservative and is going to do all these magical things.
With no thought toward vetting or toward the man's history, you have blindly accepted his promises as gospel because he's saying what you want to hear.
I agree with Gutfeld...it's too risky and there's too much at stake.
"He staked virgin territory that was there for the grabbing."
Not really. He just did it more loudly. Cruz has been calling for a border wall since 2012, at least. He's anti-amnesty and anti-path to citizenship.
I'd like to kick out every illegal, too, but it isn't going to happen, no matter how many times Trump tells you it will..."it's gonna be great!"
Take away their freebies and benefits and they'll leave.
Agreed.
In fact, I gotta say it's actually rather profound, especially when one considers that it's written by a guy who IMO comes across most times on TV as an unserious jerk and virtually a total cynic.
(As an aside, I'm wondering how this essay got thru the editorial filters at Breitbart.com, since that site has recently seemed to be a hotbed of adulation for DT. Moreover, I can't imagine Andrew Breitbart would be altogether pleased by the usually-uncritical Trump coverage that of late has characterized the eponymous site he founded.)
I am gambling on Trump because the other candidates will never deliver those things.
I agree with Gutfeld...it's too risky and there's too much at stake.
Gutfield is an idiot, agree with him all you want.
Trump says he is a Conservative and SO DOES BUSH! Ones a liar the other is a hypocrite. So it comes down to a choice between a liar and hypocrite, which is which.
Cruz is an H-1B pimp that I will never vote for. He is a polished turd, his wife is the ultimate corporate insider.
I am jaded and cynical, that I will admit. But I am that way for a good reason. I cannot change the way things are but voting for Trump is a vote against everything that is wrong here.
Gutfield is ignoring the whale in the aquarium. The conservative base has gotten a middle finger salute from the GOP for at least the last 8 years, and many conservatives see that track record going much further back.
So, the base's ideological base is now basically pissed off. And the base has decided that the GOP is willfully lying to them, that the party has no intention to fulfill any conservative promises, and that a non-ideological firebrand that has a track record of doing what he says (albeit not in politics) is worth blowing up the GOP.
Because blowing up the GOPe has become a conservative ideal.
I’m not a Conservative anymore, I am not Republican anymore. What I am is a cynical, vindictive asshole and I want it all destroyed. Start over, If Trump is the man then so be it.
There it is. The reason for Trump's success. And the 'fault' lies entirely at the feet of the weak, effeminate, corrupt putrid gOpee ...
