Donald Trump on Saturday responded to a question from CNN about whether Muslims pose a danger to the country, saying: "I love the Muslims. I think they're great people."
The Republican presidential front-runner made the comment after addressing high school students here at their homecoming Saturday night.
During a question-and-answer session with students, Trump was unable to avoid being asked about the latest political controversy dogging his campaign: his decision not to correct a supporter this week who called President Barack Obama a Muslim.
One student told Trump that she considered Muslim-Americans to be an important segment of the country. They asked whether the billionaire businessman would consider putting a Muslim in his Cabinet or on his ticket.
"Oh, absolutely," Trump responded. "No problem with that."

Not all muslims are bad. The cigar shop I frequent is run by a Jordanian muslim, and he is the nicest person I know.
I am sooo sick of people trying to paint Trump as caving, a liberal, or whatever. He’s been around a long time, been on the trail enough to get a feel for who he is. He’s spending his own money so what is he getting out of this?
I believe he wants to fix the country. Why don’t we stop parsing every word, looking for a gotcha, and just let him try. I think he’ll succeed.
I have some relatives by marriage from India, and they say that Muslims can be as nice as anyone you know but they can turn in a heartbeat, even after years of knowing them.
I would love it if he said, “Well CNN, what is wrong with President Obama being a Muslim?, Do you have something against Muslims?, ARE YOU ANTIMUSLIM OR SOMETHING??”
Exactly right.
And what are the chances of Trump giving such an answer?
And using such words as freedom, liberty and the Constitution?
I’m not really sure that there is another answer to this for a person seeking the presidency.
That being said, I don’t love them, and I don’t want them here at all.
I want them out.
I think the right answer was muslim terrorists do, that’s a pretty well documented fact.
A radical Muslim wants to behead you; a moderate Muslim wants a radical Muslim to behead you.
Yeah. He loves Muslims like Obama loves Christians.

It is obvious to anyone with an IQ above room temperature that Muslims are a threat and have been a threat for centuries.
It is depressing that our schools and colleges are brainwashing students so they actually believe “Muslim Americans” are an important segment of our country.

Yep. Islam is incompatible with a free society and should be banned in all civilized countries until Muslim countries are civilized. We are welcoming our worst enemy into our country. It is insane.
The direct question from the student was if he would hire a Muslim, not philosophy. That answer would be over the student’s head, and tomorrow the headlines would scream about the evasion.
Politicians normally prefer to choose their own battles.
