She says this on a podcast with Fox colleague Chris Stirewalt.
Dana: Do you think any of them run as a third party?
Stirewalt: No, Paul has been a loyal foot soldier for Mitch McConnell, he ain't gonna do that. And Ted Cruz ain't gonna do that. Could Trump still -- he's not gonna get --
Dana: I don't think it would be Trump.
Stirewalt: Who would it be?
Dana: I'm gonna hold my cards.
She advertised this on The Five and gave a big Chessire Cat grin like she's not speculating, like she knows something.
So: Who? Well, first of all, Perino is obviously very tapped into the Bush camp. And Bush would have the money (presumably) to mount a third party campaign.
Given that this comes down to money, it could be she's talking about Romney, though the initial question about any of them (that is, the candidates) running third party suggests she doesn't mean Romney.
Maybe she was just being misleading there.
Could she mean Bush? Could she possibly mean that Bush is considering a third party run?
Open thread. I know, terrible week of blogging. But seriously last night went really late.
Ace of Spades HQ
Didn’t Heb! sign the same sort of pledge as Trump was pressured into signing?
The GOP establishment aligned with the democrats will do anything to defeat Trump. They have to keep their Oligarchy together.
I think South Carolina and Virgina have laws that will keep his name off the ballot
Guess someone else must sign a pledge.
Why does Bush need to run 3rd party when he can just run as a democrat?
I would say Carson since he is developing a cult following like Sanders.
But seriously, anyone who runs 3rd party will destroy the election and hand it to the Democrats.
Amything to maintain the status quo...
My guess is John Kasich. He is positioning himself in the middle already. I can’t stand the man!
Time for Trump to demand that all other candidates participating in the debates demand a loyalty pledge identical to the one Trump signed.
Why go THIRD party, Jeb?
You’d run away with the Democrat nomination!
I think she thinks Carly Fiorina might go that route. If Carson went that route it would guarantee a lefty in the WH. But Fiorina? She might cut into the women’s vote enough to help the R.
Ok. So let’s get clear on this, Dana. A candidate, unamed, is considering a third-party run. Just the logistics alone of attempting this are mind-boggling. ..the probability of the candidate losing is very high, and so it appears an attempt to give the election to Democrats if the party doesn’t succeed in duping the electorate into choosing an “acceptable” candidate.
Genius.
Yeah. Trump signed a fake one, the kind you hang on a wall. The others signed real contracts with legalize fine print - which included “as long as Trump doesn’t win.”
Perino is a vacous Bushbot airhead.
Romney?
Remember Mississippi!
Tippy Toes! can’t run 3rd party because of sore loser laws in some states. But mittwit can. That’s why he isn’t jumping in now. The masshole is their Trump card - or so they think.
Pe-RINO is so juvenile.
Thing is...Trump's support is much broader than just the Republican base. He's pulling in support from indies and democrats, and Evangelicals who have been sitting out elections. I personally know several people from each of those groups who are very enthusiastic for Trump.
All of this is anecdotal, I know, but the support is still there. There were about 20 of sitting around talking after Bible Study on Wednesday night. The GOP debate was that night so the talk got around to who was going to watch the debate, almost nobody, and then to who we like. Nineteen out of twenty support Trump, there was one supporter for Ben Carson. Everyone agreed, very strongly, that we don't need a career politician this cycle. I was very surprised, to say the least.
