Nice rendition. It’s a hard song to mess up. Even Chris Montez’ version from 1966, which I posted earlier and was produced by Herb Alpert, works quite well.

George and Ira were so far above their contemporaries that it gets scary.

I saw an article several decades ago (in "Rolling Stone"?) where George doesn't die in 1937 and sends rock and roll in a totally different direction.

"12:30" is about attending a "Be-In" under the influence of LSD. It's a positive look at the drug.

When seen from that perspective, the lyrics start to make sense. The canyon mentioned in the lyrics is probably Laurel Canyon in the Hollywood Hills, where a lot of rock musicians hung out at the time.
