Im tired of telling people things they want to hear that I know we cant do. [President Barack Obama] is not going to sign a bill that will defund Obamacare. If Im president I wouldnt put one penny in my budget for Planned Parenthood not one penny Im as offended by these videos as you are. But the one thing I am not going to do going into 2016 is shut the government down and tank our ability to win. What you are saying and what Sen. [Ted] Cruz is saying, Im really sick of hearing.
The evidence supports Grahams assertions.
Since 2010, House Republicans have voted more than 50 times to repeal Obamacare, knowing that such legislation would never pass the Senate and certainly would never be signed into law by President Barack Obama himself.
They attempted to shut down the government in 2011 over Planned Parenthood funding, knowing the Senate would not accept that outcome and that Obama would not sign such a bill into law. That standoff closed the government for a few hours in the middle of the night at the deadline before House Republicans relented. Conservative Republicans are again threatening a shutdown over defunding Planned Parenthood, and lawmakers have two weeks left to find a way to avoid one. The Senate does not have the votes to pass a spending bill without Planned Parenthood money, and Obama would veto that legislation even if it were to make it to his desk.

The object is to WIN. Once we win, we can do all the things he suggests with a President that is supportive of the agenda. But if we don't win, what's the point?
Another Gov't shutdown would make these people look spoiled and foolish. They've made their point before. It's time to focus on the bigger picture and keep their eye on the ball.
Nancy Graham seems to have his panties in a twist.
As if he ever stood for anything conservative
No, because the next problem will be the filibuster. So, it’ll be, “we can’t do anything despite having a Republican President, House, and Senate, because we don’t have 60.” Then it’ll be the Supreme Court. “Well, we can’t win until we get at least 5 on our side.” They said the same thing in 2010. We can’t do anything with 1/2 of 1/3. Then in 2014 they said well we have the Senate and House, but we can’t do anything until 2016. Same tired old argument.
Did shutting down the government hurt the Republicans in 2014?
Right as Global Warming. That Government shutdown in 2013 that was blamed on Ted Cruz sure flummoxed the Republicans in 2014 didn’t it?
Like the GOP did in landslide fashion after 'shutting down the government' in 2013?
If instead of sending one giant spending bill to the president for signature or veto, the GOP can win the budget battle by breaking the budget up into individual spending bills for each agency, or even programs within agencies. While Obama may be willing to have a government shutdown over one big bill, he’ll lose the political battle if he vetoes 1000 smaller spending bills.
Send him 1000 smaller appropriations to sign or veto. Don’t send a bill authorizing funds for Planned Parenthood or Obamacare. He can’t veto what isn’t in front of him.
The GOP can WIN if they stop playing the hand that consistently loses.
Fair point. But I think mid-term elections are less watched then issues and events leading up to a General Election.
I could be wrong, don’t know. But I think anything that risks the GOP being labeled as the “Party of No” again isn’t bound to help.
"Gilligan!"
Another Gov’t shutdown would make these people look spoiled and foolish
Yep, just like last time they shut it down, the people got so angry they voted the Republican Party into the Majority of Both Houses of Congress and Most State House across the country. The problem is the PEOPLE voted for folks NOT IN THE GOPE Class, you can look at the tape and see the horror on their faces of election night when all those pesky outsiders WON. ANd They Immediately Surrendered to Obama on ELECTION NIGHT.
We have both houses and do nothing. Reagan did more with no control. R’s are pansies and just want to go along. Shut Lindsey and paint your nails.
The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing - Edmund Burke
How ironic considering HE is one of those self same liars!
Me too, Linda. So knock it off.
Why is everyone so afraid of Obama vetoing a bill passed by Congress.
If they would at least send it to his desk, I would be willing to say they fought the good fight.
Make his put his name onthe %^$*# VETO!
Pretty simple strategy: go nuclear early and get some bills on Obama’s desk for the veto.
After the vetoes, strike a “can’t we all get along pose” and let the Dems filibuster anything they want.
Mission 1 should be to get those irrevocable vetoes on the record rather than hanging out around as a vague threat.
I was listening to the little table debate on the drive home last night. After it ended and the CNN folks talked how Grahamnesty did best in the debate, the radio talk show host (Michael Barry) burst out laughing.
A bunch of liberal pundits trying convince republicans what was important.
Cruz is the guy in this bunch that we need. Perhaps, Trump, for VP, if his ego allows him to take a subordinate position.
Yeah, there’s always an excuse.

B.S.
In 2014, we delivered the GOP its biggest congressional majority in 70 years. Can you name one damn thing the party leadership has done to WIN anything since November??
Fact: If the GOP wins the presidency, then the leadership will claim it still can’t defund Planned Parenthood, repeal Obamacare, or do anything the Dems oppose until it can get a Senate supermajority to overcome a filibuster. Without a supermajority, the GOP/RINO establishment will continue to say it has no choice but to continue to fully fund this heinous and bloated federal government. There’s ALWAYS an excuse!
I’m so SICK TO DEATH of the GOP establishment and its apologists’ complete and total unwillingness to stand up for conservative principles and fighting to do what’s best for America. If it takes a government “shutdown”, which in actuality only temporarily halts 17% of NON-ESSENTIAL federal services (which begs the question as to why these even exist in the first place??), then SO WHAT!!
