Only four of pontiff’s speeches will be in English, while 14 others, including one at the United Nations, will be in his native language, Vatican says

OKay, if he can speak decent English then I believe that is the language he should use if he's coming to an Emglish speaking nation. But we all know, cause he said so himself, that one of his biggest issues he will address is immigration. So, his real main goal is to actually address the SPanish speaking immigrants?

I have a word of caution for my fellow Catholics;
Judging by the warp speed of this Pope’s ‘evolution’ on any number of topics unrelated to his church, don’t be shocked when he gives his first of many speeches in Arabic. These Arabic speeches may or may not be translated into a western language, eventually. Maybe.

The news shows will be falling over themselves with joy and fake admiration. They will want a postage stamp and a holiday named after him for that.

I don’t know. I’m not Catholic though I am Christian. He was Polish though correct? But surely he knew English too right? I do believe I heard his reign is when many churches stopped doing mass in Latin. Could be wrong.

I believe the official language of the Vatican is Italian.

IIRC, he gave most of his speeches in Italian, even though he was Polish.

English.

He spoke fluently in about 30 languages, and could give a speech in about 60.

This Pope speaks Spanish, broken Italian, and even less English.

The transition away from Latin in the Mass occurred from 1965-69.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he (and many other in the Church hierarchy) has just written off European Catholics; they are a dwindling number of people, many of whom have lost their faith completely. We don’t have an official language in this country, and those that maintain it is English are losing a demographic war by the day.

FWIW, I think he should give the speeches in English as well.

Makes sense, since most Catholics in the U.S. Are illegal Mexicans.

I doubt the pope is going to change many peoples opinions about illegal immigration, especially while speaking Spanish. Anyone who would understand his comments probably already agrees with him. Anyone who disagrees with him would have an extra reason to discount his remarks.

I was a Catholic until I was 10 years old. I'm not one now. I'm 64 now, and still not a Catholic.

I'm a Christian now.
