4.0-magnitude earthquake hits Big Bear Lake area

A magnitude-4.0 earthquake jolted the Big Bear Lake area Wednesday morning.

The quake struck approximately seven miles south-southeast of Big Bear Lake at 9:10 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Big Bear Lake is a small city in San Bernardino County, California, located in the San Bernardino Mountains along the south shore of Big Bear Lake, and surrounded by the San Bernardino National Forest. The city is located about 25 miles northeast of the city of San Bernardino,

I hope everyone is OK. That is a beautiful area. I used to camp up there and prospect for gold in Holcomb Creek, and actually drank from the creek. Thirty some years later, I question the wisdom of sleeping under the stars in a place called Big Bear.

There was a place near where I grew up we called “Bare Lake”. It was where all the hippies went skinny dipping.

I wouldn’t recommend drinking from the creek around Big Bear,
unless want to test your resistance to giardia, that is.

This was in the early 80s, when I was young and foolish. The Jose Cuervo around the campfire probably killed any germs!

Big Bear is a fantastic place. Not the place to run to if ya happened to be a murdering x-cop fugitive like the one a couple years. All that was left of him was a box of ashes.
