Obama cancels traditional Waldorf Astoria hotel stay after Chinese takeover

Barack Obama will not stay at New York’s Waldorf Astoria during the UN general assembly this month after the hotel was bought by a Chinese insurance firm.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Obama and the US delegation would stay at the nearby New York Palace Hotel. “There are a range of considerations that influence where the president will stay when he’s not at the White House,” Earnest said.

“Those considerations include everything from available space to cost and to security.”

Earnest would not say whether the Chinese acquisition of the Astoria had raised concerns about possible espionage. Anbang Insurance Group bought the landmark luxury hotel in late 2014 for $1.95bn.

The President of the United States is our head of state. A Motel 6 isn’t compatible with the dignity of the office. That said, security is an issue. I think they had to move once the Chicoms bought the place.

I agree to a degree. When your wife goes to Paris with 30 of her closest friends, then yes, money is an issue. But for POTUS to stay at a nice place, I'm mostly ok with that. I just wonder why they're suddenly so worried about security when you KNOW that they knew that Hillary had her own server. Are there any secrets left that the chicom's don't already know?

The White House would not say where the president would spend the night, citing security concerns.

Does anybody else think this might be a cover for secret meetings with United Nations officials regarding the Iran deal? Is this really an international planning session for Obama to bypass Congress?

They are saying he's taking his daughters to see the new musical Hamilton. Since when has Obama cared about anything about a dead white Founding Father?

I think it's a cover story for secret meetings with UN personnel. Sure, he'll go to the show with his daughters, but he's really going to conspire with the UN to circumvent the United States Constitution.
