Politics and advertising are closely intertwined. Like a good advertisement, a good politician needs to present a compelling case for why the voter should check his or her box on the ballot over all the other options.
Many good ads or politicians will make a direct appeal to viewers' emotionsand of all the candidates in recent memory, Donald Trump may be the best at doing this.
While some pundits and late-night comedians have eviscerated Trumps campaign, calling it all flair and no substance, this might not matter to voters. Whether youre trying to get someone to buy a product or vote for a candidate, studies have shown that appealing to emotion is nearly twice as effective as presenting facts or appearing believable.
As academics who study what makes advertisements successful and engaging, we believe Trumps allure can be boiled down to three key factors, one of whichempowermentencourages voters to actually work on his behalf.
Emotions influence behavior
But first, some background on the current understanding of emotional response in people.
*snip*
In a world where were bombarded with stimuli, from advertisements to buzzing phones, these mechanisms influence what we pay attention to, and how we react.
Appeal is simply the degree to which we judge something to be positive or negative.Engagement is fairly self-explanatory: the extent to which an object or idea produces active or passive feelingsin other words, the level of emotional intensity it produces.
Lastlyand maybe most importantis empowerment, which is the amount of control someone feels in a given situation.

I think that's part of what America intuits about him. Politicians are out for power; CEOs are out for the success of the organization.
Exactly. Trump measures success by goal achievement...not power achievement.
What was that comment the last day or so about solving the problems
He will be great at analysis. Think of the 5oo small ballroom vs too big chairs.
Trump is clever.
Due to PC, people may be quiet, or afraid to say “hell yes, that is what we want”, but they like it. Just as I did when the chance came along to choose Ronald Reagan. (I am not saying Trump is Reagan either folks) I am saying that America is depressed and sick of it. We want a positive can do person. We want to like our country again.
Whether you can see it or not, Trump has pulled a very depressed electorate out of its doldrums. He has started the rebellion against those who have been complicit in spoiling our country.
We have to win this, or else we are back to the status quo.
It is going to take great resolve to win this. Hang tough. You want to see those scum who have brought us to this mess of a country unemployed? hang tough. Don't let them win.
A good reset. Good for you.
Many, after a reset, tend to go totally self righteous, trolling the imperfect.
Thank’s for reply. I will be watching for Trumps remarks on USS Iowa, and his tax reform plan. Do hang-in. We will get there.

He is appealing because he starts with telling us “why” he is running...to make America great again. That is what resonates. He has followers because they want to make America great again...it is the cause that is his focus, and that cause that resonates. People follow him because it is where they themselves want to go. This is right out of a marketer’s playbook. See TED talks by Simon Sinek and his book, “Start With Why”.
Great movie! Discombobulated those nazis.
Great graphic at your post! Would love to have it as a single stand-alone gif or jpeg to send to friends? Anyway that could be accomplished.

Sorry not able to make all pics in one gif/jpeg ...but here's a link to post #50OR...have added more 'firings'
So true about the Natural thing. He is better at using social media than Obama and better at spinning a situation than Bill Clinton. After he speaks listening to pundits reading article comments, it reminds me of a group of people trying to explain their theories on how a magician did his trick. None of them turn out to be right, some are super complicated, and the secret is dead simple. Me I don’t want to everyone to know. Enjoy this patriots most likely this won’t happen again. I’m so enjoying wanting finally to vote for somebody after 22 years. Can’t wait, I hope this is our chance.
Big ditto. I am actually excited.
I hope the GOPe doesn’t succeed in screwing it up. Just imagine if Trump keeps coming up with 45% or so and then at the convention all the lesser candidates do what they’ve been told and throw their support to Jeb for the nomination. I can see it destroying the Republican party.
However, since the GOPe has been running candidates against conservatives it should be something to be prepared for...although not sure what we could do about it.
I don’t think their plan would work if Trump can get 50% + in 8 primary states. From what Sundance says I believe that is the hurdle.
I am an immigrant... and my first vote was cast for Bill Clinton in 1994 lol
I used a generalization... to describe the masses. Individuals will always have nuanced and specific reasons for their likes and dislikes.
I actually think the primary elections have diluted the political process and made electing delegates irrelevant. It has also meant that who we choose on the local level for congress and senate has less direct meaning in terms of who represents the party and platform on a national level. The personality of a candidate becomes the first litmus test, and not their or the party’s platform.
