With apologies to Golden Gopher fans, Minneapolis, Minn., is probably not most people’s idea of a destination city. Unless, that is, the traveler in question is Somali, in which case Minneapolis is the closest thing this side of the Atlantic to home.
Thanks to American refugee-resettlement and family-reunification policies, Minneapolis has the dubious distinction of hosting the largest concentration of Somalis in the United States — some 30,000, according to census records, though Somali leaders say that underestimates the population by tens of thousands. The influx began in the 1980s, as Somalia succumbed to internal violence, and continued through the ’90s, as it was consumed by civil war. A quarter-century later, Somalia remains among the least stable countries on Earth, and Somalis continue to come to the United States in droves. Before the Obama administration welcomes 10,000 (or more) Syrian refugees, it should consider the Somalis.
Between 1983 and 2004, the United States resettled just over 55,000 Somali refugees, 13,000 of them in 2004 alone. After a dip in the mid-2000s, Somali refugee resettlement picked back up: 27,000 Somalis entered the U.S. from 2008 to 2013, making the country the fourth-largest source of refugees in that period, behind only Burma, Iraq, and Bhutan.

For Minnesota, the arrival of Somali refugees — recently, up to 12 percent of the annual national intake, not including those settled elsewhere who then move to Minnesota — has not been an obvious boon. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported last November:
The number of Somali adults and children who participated in the state’s family cash assistance program jumped 34 percent from 2008 to 2013, to 5,950. At the same time, food assistance participation increased 98 percent, to 17,300 adults and children, which does not include U.S.-born Somalis.
Shelters, food banks, and local charities serve thousands of Somalis annually.
#share#And there is the terror problem. To date, more than 60 young Somali men and women have left Minnesota to join al-Shabaab, the Islamic State, and other Islamic terrorist organizations in the Middle East and Africa. Others have been stopped at local airports attempting to make the journey, and prosecutions for sending money to terrorist outfits abroad are not uncommon. The FBI has begun to monitor the community, and it is the target of a federal pilot program to counter violent extremism. That program will focus especially on Minneapolis’s Cedar Riverside neighborhood — or, as locals call it, “Little Mogadishu.”

It is not difficult to imagine, in the near future, a “Little Damascus” cropping up in Buffalo or Kansas City or Reno. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the conflict in Somalia has created 1.1 million refugees, and another 1.1 million internally displaced persons. Those numbers are dwarfed by the crisis in Syria: 4 million refugees on the run, and another 7 million persons internally displaced. If the United States took in Syrian refugees in the same proportion as Somali refugees, we would be looking at 400,000 new residents. One can extrapolate the consequent strain on welfare programs, and the increased threat of terrorism.
But, as the Somali experiment makes clear, it is not just the short-term consequences that are worrisome. Notably, the terror threat from the Somali-American community comes not from refugees, but from their children — American-born Somalis who have never been to Africa. Setting aside the near-certainty that at least some Syrian refugees will be connected to the Islamic State, refugee resettlement is sure to incubate national-security threats that will not manifest themselves for 20 years.

I visited Minneapolis’s Somali community last autumn, and while Cedar Riverside is not a Parisian banlieue, it would not be inappropriate to say that Minneapolis’s Somalis have self-ghettoized. One sees a community at tension with its adopted home. As I wrote at the time:
Most American Somalis prefer, when it comes to the U.S. of A., to have one foot in and one out. Being a community of refugees, forced to flee a country torn by two decades of civil war, their embrace of America is grateful, but not necessarily enthusiastic. In the Somali community, a young St. Paul man can say unironically that he was “shocked” to learn that his friend had died fighting for the Islamic State in Syria, because “I thought he [was] going to Ethiopia and fighting.”
Perhaps it was right — as an act of humaneness, of charity — to accept Somali refugees in the numbers we have. If not, perhaps it was excusable, since much of that generosity predated our awareness of the potency of global terror networks and the ability of recruiters in the Horn of Africa to communicate with teenagers in the basements of Minnesota.
We know much more now about the threats we face, and we have the Somali community as an example of the consequences of a generous refugee policy in an age that eschews assimilation. It would be entirely humane to rescue those suffering from Syria’s mayhem. It would be inhumane, though, to gravely threaten American security in the process.

There’s another factor causing the decline of Western Civilization that’s not mentioned in this post, and that is:
Survival of the unfit.
Charles Darwin’s Theory of Evolution (often referred to as The Theory of Survival of the Fittest) describes the positive effects resulting from any “pressure” on an animal species that removes the least fit among the species and allows only the most fit of the species to reproduce. Many of us are well aware of this “Survival of the Fittest” theory, but few are aware that Darwin also makes mention of the negative effects resulting from unlimited reproduction of a species’ least fit when the weak, the lazy, and the stupid are left unchecked.
We like to think otherwise, but our species, Homo sapiens, isn’t that long “out of the trees” and the same laws of nature that affect all of God’s creatures apply equally to us. If we were to observe any other species that had been allowed to reproduce without limitations, we would know immediately what the consequences will be.
Whenever the weak; lazy; and stupid of a species are allowed to reproduce unimpeded by predators that feed off the weak; lazy; and stupid, they soon outnumber the strong, productive, and intelligent. When the weak/lazy/stupid dominate the gene pool, the entire population becomes weak/ lazy/stupid, and then the population collapses.
In the past, when these collapses occurred within human populations, they have been referred to as a “Malthusian Collapse.” Thomas Malthus, a Nineteenth Century Economist, thought these collapses were caused simply because past civilizations had reached a point where human populations could no longer produce sufficient food supplies to feed themselves, but he never pinned down the exact reason for the food shortages.
We now think some of these collapses of past human civilizations have occurred whenever the unproductive weak/lazy/stupid greatly outnumber the strong/productive/intelligent of the population. In other words, the majority of the population becomes too lazy to perform the work necessary to provide for themselves and what’s left of the strong/productive/intelligent refuses to continue to do it for them.
These collapses have occurred at frequent intervals throughout human history, and Western Civilization is, in my humble opinion, currently on the cusp of one of these collapses.

There are actually three players in this drama - the fit, the unfit AND the “beast”.
It is the “beast” that causes the fit to feed, clothe, promote the reproduction of the unfit to the potential demise of the fit.
But who is this “beast” and how does he do his work?

The questions that the events of today and Jean Raspail’s “Camp of the Saints” are forcing us to address are these:
What are the limits of compassion? At what point does compassion end up killing the compassionate one? How do we arrive at and define that limit? What do we do when we reach it?
Unfortunately man bears a huge burden in being the only animal with the awareness of good and evil. It makes you wonder if this is just the latest echo from genesis and the original sin?

That Eve sure caused us a lot of headaches!
Somalians have also taken over the Mall of America in terms of employees. It is not safe there at all anymore. A friend from Minnesota has let me know that there are businesses in the Mall of America will not renew their leases. The combined churches youth groups opted to go to a Wisconsin Dells Indoor Water Park instead of the Mall of America’s Indoor Park during the parent Teacher conference break.
But the Somali were useful in the last presidential election when the democrats bussed them into Ohio to vote for Obama.
Hard to believe that just 98 years ago, on the eve of the USA declaring war on Germany, a political cartoon showed Uncle Sam and John Bull shaking hands across the Atlantic and saying....
“WE Anglo-Saxon countries have to stick together!”
A big part of the problem is the mosques.
There were virtually no mosques before the recent surge in Islamic immigration, and the people who build them are not poor immigrants. The mosque builders in America are Saudis and the Turkish Government, whose goal is is to radicalize, recruit and organize.
The Imams are trained by Saudis, the religious instruction books are written by Saudi-paid shills. They are the ones investing to assimilate immigrants into their “culture”.
The mosques, and other foreign-funded Islamic organizations need to be investigated, purged of radicals and monitored in perpetuity. That is how it is done in most muslim countries, where they know what they are dealing with.
Imam Obama has considered the Somali effect on the US, and he wants more of the same.
My wife’s sister lives in SW Missouri where there are large chicken slaughtering and processing plants.
It looks like the Somalis have displaced the Mexicans (who themselves displaced US citizens). Now the Mexicans are on welfare.
And loving every minute of it.
I haven’t run across many Syrians but I would trade in our Somalies for Syrians in an instant.

You’d trade one set of welfare sponges for another lighter skinned set.
Somalis are the worst. Even Syrians will be an improvement. Their Allah-Muhammaed beliefs has given all these dumb pukes a delusional confidence in themselves
The example of the America-hating Somalis is exactly why many in the U.S. are pushing now for Syrian immigrants the and the utter chaos they will create.
They ARE considering what the Somalis brought: a solid Democrat voting block.
I bet these “Syrians” are going to be dropped in swing states or marginal red states to change the voting demographics.

In a recent interview on CBN News, Andrew White, an Anglican priest known as the “Vicar of Baghdad,” tried to recount the horrific atrocities Christians in Iraq are suffering at the hands of the Islamic State. After explaining how Christian minorities fled Baghdad to Ninevah when Islamic militants began terrorizing them and bombing their churches, White said:

It should be noted that the targeting of Christian children in Iraq goes back years before the creation of ISIS. For example, in June 2008, a Canadian parliamentary committee heard about how “militant Muslims” were crucifying Christian children: “Since the war began in 2003, about 12 children, many as young as 10, have been kidnapped and killed, then nailed to makeshift crosses near their homes to terrify and torment their parents.”
