Right now there are two sides in Syria - bad and worse. We opposed the bad, so by default we are supporting the worse. Although we pretended that there was a significant number of "good guys", if there were any they quickly got killed or switched sides. Right now our best path is to kill off the expansionist cancer of ISIS - or to just avoid the whole mess of the Middle East and pump our own oil.
We created a real mess in Syria. I don’t disagree with that.
Sure we should be against ISIS. Just announcing our resolve on that matter would have gone a long way toward avoiding what is taking place now.
ISIS knew Obama wouldn’t do diddly.
Your thought that Syria is bad, and ISIS is worse, is right.
Honestly, the best thing we could do right now is withdraw our support from the anti-Syrian forces, and get to work destroying ISIS, with vigor.
Russia would quickly lose a reason to be in Syria.
It would stick around, but it might also pull out in time.
Obama drew them in masterfully. It’s a major destabilizing factor in the Middle East now.
