I see motorcycle guys with confederate flags all the time. Homes out in the country too. Of course, central Virginia is the capital of the south. Washington state is full of left wing anarchists. You won’t see too many Cruz bumper stickers. Only for fear of slashed tires.

Its my assumption that the pilot was unarmed. Its seems strange that a government that entrusts its aircraft to him would limit his access to personal defense weapons. Again, just an assumption on my part.

If he was traveling to or from base he was likely disarmed, as weapons are prohibited on base.
