It's the end, not of an age, not of an epoch, but of an eon.
The beginning of this eon, as Rome passed from monarchy to republic, was marked by the suicide of Lucretia, a Roman matron who had been dishonored by the last Etruscan King's son. ("Allow me to have my way with you, or I will kill both you and a servant, array the bodies together and claim I found you in flagrante delicto.")
Lucretia's suicide was because of her sense of shame. Not that she had been guilty of lust. But Augustin of Hippo showed, that it was murder of the self, based on false shame as a kind of pride.
Our international murder of the self, because of greed, not pride, shame or lust, uses not a dagger, but like suicide by police, an institution, this time, an insane regime that actively seeks to provoke worldwide nuclear armageddon.
This prospect was most effectively previewed in "Destroying the World to Save It: Aum Shinrikyo, Apocalyptic Violence, and the New Global Terrorism", Dr. Robert Lifton's account of the Aum Shinrikyo apocalyptic cult's Tokyo sarin gas attack. Their intention to provoke worldwide Armageddon, getting the superpowers to attack one another.
The theocratic powers that backed the former Iranian regime of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad still adhere to the doctrine of the Mahdi, still aspire to precipitate Armageddon, have consistently indicated their intention to use nuclear weapons to do so.
Lighting up the skies above Tel Aviv is only the opening salvo, in the Iranian theocracy's plan to hasten the advent of their envisioned messiah, the Mahdi.
Kill the lot of them.
