MANCHESTER, N.H. On average, the winner of the New Hampshire presidential primary is someone who shook the hands of at least 35 percent of the people who voted for him.
Not everyone who shows up and kisses all the babies gets the most votes. But you cant win without a whole lot of face time. And time is quite a precious commodity to a candidate.
So far, Sen. Ted Cruz has spent far more time outside the Granite State. His two-day visit last weekend was his first in three months, and it did not go unnoticed that hed already made four trips each to Iowa and South Carolina in that same time.
Early-state voters are a prickly sort, and hell need to work on that.
But if Cruz has left New Hampshire to fallow, he also has deftly spent the summer planting seeds in the South, where a flurry of contests March 1 could prove a hill too high for many candidates the ones focused only on the trio of early states.
Cruz spent a week last month on a seven-state bus tour from South Carolina to Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
We went places nobodys ever been at least, not this early in a campaign and we gave them the full presidential experience, said a top Cruz strategist. Youre either running a national campaign or youre not.
Cruz has more than 50 paid staff members spread across nine states: Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Nevada, Georgia, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Alabama, plus the headquarters in Houston.
All of that makes a heap of sense to Bob Smith.

Cruz came to Houston but I was not able to attend.
What ever happened to the gillman@blacklagoon.com?
There will be more opportunities.
Cruz has lots of money. He can organize and wait until 10 of the others fall out.
Trump/Cruz
Will grab lib/GOPe pants legs and shake till the say no more.
Ted Cruzs preparations in the South could pay offTrump will be in Dallas on the 14th...we'll see whose preparations are going to pay off.
I hope he wears his boots to his sham anti-Iran rally for all the bullshit he's going to spew out.

Trump/CruzThe endless number of times that "Trump/Cruz" is posted by Cruz supporters is very telling about how you all think his chances are of being nominated.
If I didn't know better I'd swear he's running to be Vice President for Trump. Why is that?
Says it all, Ted Cruz for any Executive or Judicial position other than President would be a waste.
See tag line; I see that you wear it proudly.
i did not know Trump wa a gun grabber, but he sure is. ick
In the end Cruz will surge or he won’t. If he doesn’t, Trump will welcome any of those voters who are willing to give him a chance. The more the Cruz supporters are mocked and belittled now, the fewer that will be.
Trump should be either the US embassador to China or Mexico under President Cruz.
What a brilliant strategy. Insult all Trump’s supporters in the full, confident assurance you will never need any of them to switch to supporting Cruz.
Because if you do suspect Cruz may one day need some of Trump’s supporters, calling them names/stupid is the best way to assure you will never get them.
I hope you are right!
“If I didn’t know better I’d swear he’s running to be Vice President for Trump”
I believe Cruz is smart enough to realize he is not going to be the GOP nominee so he has hitched his wagon to Trump’s star and Trump will give his a really good job once he’s Prez. Either VP or AG.
With all the crap I hear from Trumpsters, that is truly funny. For the record, and for about the twentieth time, I haven't picked a candidate to support. So your thesis is baseless.
