The Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (OASDI) program commonly known as Social Security, which celebrated its 80th birthday on August 14, is projected to run an $84 billion deficit this year, according to the 2015 Annual Report of the Board of Trustees. […]

During 2014, $646.2 billion in payroll taxes was collected from 166 million working Americans.

But that was not enough to cover the $859 billion in Social Security benefits that were collected by 59 million people, including 42 million retired workers and their dependents, six million survivors of deceased workers, and 11 million disabled workers and their dependents. …

At least get rid of the 11 million disability recipients. Once you do that, then begin the process of fixing the program.

Men and Woman over 67 years old should be the ONLY ones getting the money.

Sorry kids whose parent died. They should not get any money. Why should they? That is what insurance is for that you purchase on your own

Paul Ryan is the Worst person to even discuss Social Security. He’s been on Social Security since he was born due to his father’s death.

It was never separate. SS has always been a “pay as you go” welfare transfer scheme. There has been a lot of rhetoric and BS by politicians about lock boxes and contracts but none of it involves any actual contractural laws or constitutional laws.

That is going towards the new 3 meals a day for all schools from the federal government and then the refugies coming to America from Syria. How do you think those two programs alone are going to be paid. America doesn’t care about elderly who are just a drain on society....well that is how they act anyway.

Something broken from the start cannot be fixed. Even the “limited” first permutation of SS was pilloried as socialism, and rightly so.

Take note that social security was pushed through as the result of a crisis caused by FDR himself: his policies worsening the Depression and thus resulting in 50 percent of of the elderly falling below the poverty level. Same old tactics by the left.

Save Social Security?

We can STOP giving money to counties that hate us...

We can send illegals home...

We can stop making ‘deals’ that pad the bank accounts of Clinton type public servants....

Then - for icing on the cake, put in a flat tax and fire the haters at the IRS... the people who hate traditional Americans can find a new line of work.. That will save a fortune...

Then end grants to ‘environmentalists’ until ONE of their pie in the sky doom scenarios comes true... (which will be never).... AND last but not least charge Congressmen ‘a dollar’ for each hundred million in new spending they vote for - to be taken out of their paychecks)

Yes, those are all good ideas.

However, there hasn’t been a President elected that could change
Washington, including Reagan.

Every special interest group has their own thiefdom.
None will be willing to give it up.

Just keep giving the retirees funds to the faux “disabled”. This didn’t have to happen.

$84 billion is chicken feed by “federal” standards.

Sorry kids whose parent died. They should not get any money.”

My grandson was barely eleven when my daughter died. Her ex and his new wife received slightly more than $1200 a month of tax free money for almost eight years from Social Security. They used ALL of the money to pay off their credit card bills, their house, and for tuition for one of her daughters to attend private school. Nothing for my grandson and there wasn’t a darn thing I could do about it.

that is what people don't understand....there are a HUGE number of elderly people out there that hardly paid anything into SS ....

then the illegals who come in, tell the SS their 65 but "lost" their BC....

on top of that, all of the IMO fraudulent "disabled"....I personally know many of them....

it does not pay to work in the USA.....it does not pay...

They better get the money from somewhere because I have paid into it all of my life. I want my money.

Bring the troops home and get out of the wars. Then put the savings into Social Security.

Otherwise its theft.

It was theft from its outset. Which was my point.

So sorry to hear that. I think that at the very least they should put it into an account for the children until they are 18 or 22. It is bad enough that you had to go through the death but then to see your grandchild taken care of appropriately is despicable. I am so sorry.
