In America, the role of politics and politicians is to defend the Constitution. And the essence of that Constitution is to limit the powers of government while protecting the unalienable rights of the people as described in the Declaration of Independence. But according to a prominent Catholic sister, Pope Francis has a very different view, one which she obviously shares.
Appearing on MSNBC's Up With Steve Kornacki today, Sister Simone Campbell said that the Pope was "very clear" in his encyclical. Rather controlling government, he believes the role of politics is to "control the economy."

McConnell and Boehner would be bent over laughing if they read that.
The problem with our government now is they have been bought and paid for.
I just looked her up. Totally liberal socialist. I guessed it from the fact that she does not wear the veil and uses her last name.
Washington is too corrupt to reform itself. It will either need to be done by the States, or by the barrel of the gun from ordinary patriots.
Simone, what can I say. The Pope may warrant leniency for being to the Left, given where he was raised and his education. You, Simone, what could possibly your excuse?
And, where is your Sister habit?? You don’t want to look like a Catholic, you don’t want to talk like a devout Catholic, so what is your gig, really?
Good point. I just went back to the original NewsBusters item and inserted “rightful” before “role.”
That’s not a nun. That’s just an old biddy in frumpy clothes.
Not Biblical Pope -
The responsibility of government is clearly set out in the US Constitution which was carefully written in accordance with Biblical principals by devout Christians.

Sounds like a socialist nun who believes that the Pope is also a socialist, and is happy.
There’s a difference between regulate and control.
Government can be useful in curbing excesses and predatory behavior, and then should leave things otherwise alone.
“Control” implies a lot more involvement than that. Who sets the goals? Haven’t we seen in the USSR and Maoist China how top-down central planning misallocates resources to the detriment of the general welfare?
Letting gov’t define “excesses and predatory behavior” is not a good idea.
When the Catholic Church, or indeed any Church, stops making the Main Thing the Main Thing, it has no more purpose.
The Main Thing is not politics, or economics, or any of the sciences. It is the spreading of the word of Jesus Christ.
It is a big enough job, and unequaled in importance.
Islam already interferes with politics enough for all religions.
I am a Roman Catholic....but this Communist, Socialist, Obamabot Pope Francis is not my Pope and never will be!!! Where is he from.....Argentina??? Well....folks Argentina ain’t nothing to write home about...in fact it’s economy stinks and has been that way for many, many years under the Pope’s “Socialist” corrupt, control and policies!!! Obama and Pope Francis deserve one another!!! Shame on the entire Catholic Church!!!
Leave it to the media to single out one of their own. Catholic ping!
An economy controlled by pols is an economy destroyed.
Thank you both.
That’s exactly what the False Prophet is supposed to believe...
In other words, "fascism". Sometimes also known as "oligarchy".
