Donald J. Trump revealed gaps in his mastery of international affairs during a radio interview on Thursday, appearing to mistake the Quds Force, an Iranian military group, for the Kurds, a Middle Eastern people, and growing testy over questions about foreign leaders.
Youre asking me names that I think its somewhat ridiculous, Mr. Trump told Hugh Hewitt, a popular conservative radio show host. As far as the individual players, of course I dont know them. Ive never met them. I havent been, you know, in a position to meet them.
At one point, Mr. Hewitt asked Mr. Trump if he was familiar with Gen. Qassim Suleimani, the shadowy commander of Irans paramilitary Quds Force.
Yes, but go ahead, give me a little, go ahead, tell me, Mr. Trump replied.
He runs the Quds Forces, Mr. Hewitt said.
Yes, O.K., right, Mr. Trump said.
But Mr. Trump seemed to think Mr. Hewitt was referring to the Kurds, a group with its own language and culture.
Mr. Trump asserted that the Kurds, by the way, have been horribly mistreated.
Mr. Hewitt interrupted. No, not the Kurds, the Quds Forces, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Quds Forces.

‘Trumps slogan is Make AMERICA great again”’
And his platform is, “It’ll be terrific”.
And what’s the skinny on Hugh Hewett? Those seem like gotcha questions. My impression is that Hewett combed the news for some obscure names he could use to snooker Trump with some trap questions. As if he really cares what that one raghead Suliamani is going to do between now and Inauguation Day. If I were Trump, Hewett would now be at the top of my Crap List!
I bet Patton did not know how to drive a Sherman tank but he still generaled the heck out of it.
Confusing the Quds and the Kurds?? And this guy wants to be President? Ha!
I seriously doubt ObaMao would even score in the top 50%.
Actually, to quote Cankles, "What difference does it make?" Really, we AREN'T going to ally with any of these terrorists, they are all enemies. I figure the spy agencies and military can identify the ones that need to be killed the quickest and brief the president. It's not like Trump will "negotiate" with them.
Quds and Kurds? Sounds like a simple mishearing.
Hewitt has been all over TV saying Trump does not have what it takes to be President. He is openly hostile to Trump and has no business being a moderator.
Hewitt has been wrong on so many issues. He really thought Romney was going to win by a landslide. He has repeatedly said McConnell is a great “leader”.
This is going to be very ugly to watch.
It is so clear what the GOPers like Hewitt are trying to do.
Fiorina did know it---but I take her for something of a wonk who digs this stuff. She still doesn't ramp up her game to big ideals well.
But while Trump could have done better, the overall interview was pretty good. And no, I didn't know the Quds or this terror dude.
I have to ask ..... Do they EVER ask these questions of their favorite, Obama? Does Hillface ever get asked?
Ed, I looked at all the Hugh Hewitt interviews and while he asked MOST of the people this question, a couple he fed the answer to by naming the guy and explaining who the Quds were. He didn’t do it with Trump or Fiorina. If you asked the same question in the same words to the others, most of them except Rubio and Cruz and Paul-—who would get this stuff in their weekly intelligence briefings-—would muff it.
Qud force is an obscure reference, IRG is fine.
Knowing the difference between Hamas and Hezbollah is a good question and someone running for president should know it.
I am less concerned that Trump does not know the Qud force and more concern the infallible defense of him by his supporters. All the candidates have strengths and weaknesses
I have never liked Hugh, he always comes across slick to me.
Really? What non senator knows that? Not Walker (I read his interview). Not Carson. Fiorina knew it, but she’s a kind of policy wonk-—which is why she’s not catching on. Bush, Christie, Perry wouldn’t know that.
Whatever it is, it isn't in any way conservative.
Oh spare us your phony concern.
your just another Walker bush opetative trashing Trump for the
RNC .
If CNN has any brains whatsoever....it will remove Hugh Hewitt from the upcoming Republican debate!!! Hewitt made a total fool out of himself by asking Donald Trump “Gotcha” questions. I guess the GOP(e) is in full panic mode!!!
You are just another Walker Bush operative following the Karl Roves smearing orders today !
Of course he does, he is a professional politician. Look where that got us.
Walker? Bush?
Nope. Try Cruz.
