Mr. Obama, the glaciers are melting, because it is summertime.

The glaciers are melting because we are still coming out of the last ice age.

Presidential visit? Maybe the glaciers are melting because of all of the associated hot air.

The hike is supposed to be the high point of this weeks trip to Alaska, undertaken for the purpose of dramatizing global warming. The media pitch is that Exit Glacier has been rapidly retreating for decades because of global warming.
Sadly for the Presidents play acting, though, the National Park Service previously reported that Exit Glacier has been exiting since at least the early 1800s before the Industrial Revolution even got underway.
Does anybody honestly think that this will ever change the "media pitch"? He'll score whatever political points he wants out of this. Facts be damned.

You mean Obama just went to Alaska for political purposes? Nah!

He had to go to this glacier because it’s the only one in Alaska that’s shrinking, the rest are growing—and would have been a much close trip to get to.
