ATLANTA (AP) Police officers who arrived at the wrong Atlanta home after a report of suspicious activity shot the man who lives there, killed his dog and "likely" shot a fellow officer, leaving him seriously wounded, authorities said Tuesday.
The bloody misunderstanding began Monday night when DeKalb County police received a report of a possible burglary at a one-story residence near an intersection in southeast Atlanta. Lacking an exact address, the officers were sent in the dark to a neighborhood where many of the single-story homes look similar.
Three police officers found a home they thought matched a description provided by a 911 caller, but were unable to make contact with anyone inside, according to a statement from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. They entered the home through an unlocked rear door and two officers fired their guns at a dog, killing it.

Well, they did have possible cause.
Could be. Someday, being a cop may be as dangerous as being a fisherman or lumberjack.
GPS is useless when you don’t have an address/coordinates to find.
These guys did an armed raid without knowing where to go.
Every cop, while he is on duty outside of the station, should be wearing one.
I suspect it would clear more cops that it would condemn.
Hey buddy, I don’t see you over on this thread. What’s wrong? Run out of boot polish?
On returning home the home owner would not talk to anyone. The meaning of this is, see in court!
Ha! How about truck driver?
It IS really messed up. At my house, there’d be more than one “shot” cop.
The Sheriff in my county knows me.... and his deputies KNOW that if they come to my address, they’d best announce their presence and be invited to enter.
Anyone coming into my home in the middle of the night unannounced WILL be met with overwhelming firepower.
You’re missing the point. They didn’t even have an address to stick into a GPS, just a street / neighborhood. And they STILL barged into someone’s house and shot the place up.
That’s an excellent point!
I think we need a new mantra; “Dog’s Lives Matter”. I am serious. Police indiscriminately shoot dogs and get away with it all the time. To many Dog owners their dog are like members of the family. When factored into a police shooting incident they are treated like livestock.
Exactly. Hey all you cops, if you think your shins are more important than my dog’s life... Eff you! They aren’t! Stay the hell out of my house!
If they started taking it out of the police pension fund it would stop pretty quick.
No, you`re missing my point, if you`re not sure, you don`t go, period.
Which is my point, if you aren`t sure, you cool your ‘ninja’ heels and wait till you are certain.
They will claim exigent circumstances exception to the 4th Amendment for the entry. Still pretty messed up.
This wasn’t SWAT. It was a standard patrol.
Impunity as a job benefit. Someone is responsible for hiring these dangerous cretins.
In the eye of the cops and their master and jackboot lickers, not only is your dog's life worth nothing, but you life is worth less than a moment of discomfort to them
