Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) says that defunding Planned Parenthood will have to wait for a new commander in chief in 2017.
The presidents made it very clear hes not going to sign any bill that includes defunding of Planned Parenthood, so thats another issue that awaits a new president, hopefully with a different point of view about Planned Parenthood, McConnell said Monday on the Kentucky station WYMTs Issues and Answers.
Defunding Planned Parenthood has become a leading cause among some Republicans in the wake of controversial undercover videos showing Planned Parenthood officials discussing the price of fetal tissue for medical research. Planned Parenthood, while apologizing for the tone, denies any wrongdoing, saying officials are discussing legal compensation for expenses and pointing to an analysis that the videos are heavily edited.
McConnell said that the Senate would vote again on defunding Planned Parenthood after a failed Senate vote last month, but he said that the votes are not there.
We just dont have the votes to get the outcome that wed like, he said. Again, the president has the pen to sign it. If he doesnt sign it, it doesnt happen. But, yeah, we voted on that already in the Senate, well vote on it again, but I would remind all of your viewers the way you make a law in this country, the Congress has to pass it and the president has to sign it.

What kills me is all the “coward” allegations. The Drunk & McConnell are not cowards. They are whores, sold to the highest bidder.
The dirty little secret...
Congress could unilaterally defund Planned Parenthood this minute.
No special vote would need to be held.
The leadership just needs to decide to stop funding it.
Obama couldn’t do a thing about it.
Things will be better once you all succeed in getting Hilary or Sanders or Warren elected president. Are you going to try to give Nancy the gavel back, too?
I understand the coward thing. He looks like one on the surface. He also looks stupid. He is neither. And anyone looking beyond the surface would see that you are as usual, 100% correct.
Who cares, you pass it and make them stand up and defend removing the brains of live children in front of the nation and have them veto it....
Politics is blood sport and Republican play it likes its nerf football.
Let my again extend my insincere thanks to the voters of Ky for reelection this POS.
McConnell is right. More specifically, as a consequence of the ill-conceived 17th Amendment, even after three election cycles, enough cycles to replace all members of the Senate, low-information patriots have still not elected the 2/3 Senate majority required to override a presidential veto to stop unconstitutional funding for Planned Parenthood.
I dont think that the RINO-controlled House has the required 2/3 majority to override a presidential veto either, corrections welcome.
In fact, incumbent senators played on the ignorance of low-information patriots to get themselves reelected by claiming to repeal Obamacare if reelected, knowing that they wouldnt have the 2/3 majority vote necessary to override a veto of any bill that dared to repeal unconstitutional Obamacare.
Are we having fun yet?
The 17th Amendment needs to disappear, and corrupt senators along with unconstitutional federal funding for vote-winning Planned Parenthood and Obamacare along with it.
Man, I tell you what, in the case of Planned Parenthood, this is some massive, epic, immeasurable, incalculable Evil straight out of the pits of Hell.
I cannot believe that NO ONE IN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT CAN MUSTER ANY KIND OF RESPONSE TO IT WHATSOEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is NO POINT WHATSOEVER in the pointless existence of the accursed GOP.
I’m sorry for yelling, Norm, this really angers me ;/
“Re-appoint another Senate Leader...NOW!!!”
How do you do that when the bulk of the GOP in the Senate are also worthless, spineless turds like Old Scrotum Neck? In this regard, the Senate is in much worse shape than the House. At least some in the House are trying to force a vote on Boner.
It will pass both houses by wide margins. Make the Marxist veto it.
The GOPe is pathetic.
I hear you. But they HAVE mustered a response Chris. All but Cruz have either openly avoided the subject, supported Pp or called Cruz a jackass for it.
I have plenty of contempt for them. But far more for the human garbage that makes excuses for them.
Hmm....I thought Congress controlled the purse strings and was a co-equal branch of government.
Mitch, I have held on long enough. You have clearly been frightened into bending over for Obama. You can’t point to any significant successes....I’m ready for you to retire.
So that whole no matter what/lesser evil was probably a pretty stupid thing for conservatives to get behind huh? Afterall, Democrats didn’t elect the GOP.
“You have to wait, there’s nothing I can do about it.”
McConnell should be a receptionist in a doctor’s office, not the Senate Majority Leader.
Why does it have to wait? The only answer I can come up with is that the GOP leadership does not have the balls to take on the President.

Which brings up another nettle in this article: referring in a non-military context to Obama as the commander-in-chief. The president is most certainly not the commander-in-chief of we-the-people. His share of governance at the federal level in only one third. If we continue portraying him as a sovereign, he will continue acting like one.
I’m sorry, can someone PLEASE explain to me again why it was SO IMPORTANT to give the Senate to the GOP in 2014?
Seems like anyone that said it would be useless, like me, was flamed.
And if we had the presidency they’d come up with another excuse.
Or have Roberts fix it for them.
Gutless, totally gutless.
