Despite a show of police force designed to curb a surge in violence, the nations capital reached a disturbing milestone Friday night when a rash of gunfire pushed this years homicide count to 105 already equaling 2014s total.
Two men died and eight people were wounded overnight, even as hundreds of police officers flooded Washingtons streets in an all hands on deck strategy meant to make this rattled city feel safer. Amid Twitter alerts about the spate of seven shootings, D.C. police were also posting photos of illegal guns they had seized. On Saturday, they announced that they had recovered nine weapons and made the same number of arrests.
The onslaught began just one day after Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) detailed her $15 million Safer, Stronger DC response to the spike in killings. Protesters angry about how the city has handled the rise in crime disrupted her announcement with chants of Black lives matter!
During the most serious incident Friday night, in Southeast Washington, witnesses estimated that at least 15 shots were fired.
Omoni Johnson, 26, who lived in Northeast, died about 11:45 p.m., police said. Shaheed James, 21, who lived in Clinton, Md., was taken to a hospital, where he also died. A third man, whom police have not identified, was wounded.

Where have all the (R) men in DC gone? Maybe that's the problem?
I wouldn’t use the word “covered-up”. I spent thirty years associated with the military and have learned the art of just not mentioning your woes. If you had a shortfall, you didn’t say nothing in public...you’d just dig for more funding or just let the mess pass by.
Six years ago, I was reading through a piece on ‘gift’ money that President Obama and Congress passed out. Some small town city clerk passed by the local cop station in town and was shocked to see them throwing new computer boxes in the dumpster. The whole police department inventory was replaced. How was this possible was the question from the clerk, who knew the city hadn’t approved any budget for new hardware.
Well, the cops explained that they had put in for a ‘gift-deal’ from money that Congress was dumping out on public projects, and they got all new hardware from that. The funny thing...as the clerk dug into this...the check went to the police department and they had their own bank account, thus avoiding the city accounting services. No one could explain where the account came from or how it was managed (being hidden makes it a question-mark).
My brother brought up a month later...my old home town had gotten a brand new boat to patrol the local dam and lake. $10,000 speed boat for the cops, and the city council admitted that they knew about this but hid it from the public view until after the boat arrived. The boat? Oh, it was supposed to be for preventing terrorists from getting near the dam (yeah, good story), but they use the boat for DWI boating (another gimmick for town profits).
Up the road was another town where the cop put in for a Homeland Security grant for a night-vision goggles item. Funny thing....he didn’t tell the city council about that and they just accidentally walked into one of his surveillance episodes and demanded to know where the night-vision equipment came from. They forced him to sell it to another police-department.
What I’m saying....is that overview of police actions is now warranted. Even the laws which are applied in some cases and totally dismissed in other cases...require some kind of public statement. If you’ve got cops in your town who are misbehaving and acting like sixteen-year-old kids....then it’s the public’s responsibility to step in and either force mature behavior or fire the guys who are out of line.
Liberal-run cities like D.C., Milwaukee, Chicago - all setting murder records. Years and years of Democrat social programs training minorities to do nothing but wait for the gov’t check in exchange for votes have created “the hood” and neighborhoods where crime is the only way to get ahead (or so they think). The Left created a society of dependency and gave no value and encouragement to minorities to seek a better life. Then they wonder why there are problems in their created ghettos.
hyperbolic balderdash
A certain culture needs to be caged up.
“Protesters angry about how the city has handled the rise in crime disrupted her announcement with chants of Black lives matter!............
Indeed they sure do matter, that’s why they are killing each other. There’s still more time to kill some more since a long weekend is coming......... (sarc)
The street rats just don’t get it, do they?
ahmmm...... subculture
not all need to be in the cages

Omoni, in Korean, is a formal way of saying mother. Omma would be informal. For instance a woman may refer to her mother in law as omoni.
Your entire country will look like D.C. in a few years, if the present policies continue.
Were seeing a dramatically increasing number of people who are out on community release, under supervision, that have long, violent histories who are continuing to commit crime.
Then again, if violent offenders are being released, what good does arresting them do?
The standards are high but they are targeting the swat team wannabees.
Law enforcement has clearly set itself as above the law in this country.

Posting pictures of undocumented “dreamer” guns?
The poor things might be stigmatized.
You’re depicting SOP govt waste/corruption, not police brutality. Might as well murder school board members if that’s your standard.
OMG! I dreamed about some guns just the other night. Wish I could remember what they looked like but I only saw them as they fell out of the boat.
His mother is from Jamaica, and when she was asked what the baby's name was, she said, "Oh, mon, 'e..." and she started coughing, and couldn't finish the sentence, and the rest is, as they say, history.
The big majority of the murders in the major cities are criminals shooting each other
