When the 19th Amendment went into effect 95 years ago today (8/26), The Nation was already looking ahead to the deeper implications of womens suffrage. What Will They Do With The Vote? asked a piece by Stella Crossley Daljord. The answer has implications for the state of American politics today, almost a century after the extension of suffrage to women.

They will elect cute candidates that share their feelings and show they care. Yuck!
You said FDR, when my point was it was also Television.
So I thought of this doozy from Mr. Biden...
When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didnt just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed.
You know, there’s an argument to be made in favor of that...

Women want to turn Government into everybodys Jewish mother
I had forgotten about Slow Joe's bizarre comment. Funny ... if a Republican Vice President had done something like, maybe, misspell "potatoe" he'd have been pilloried and his political career destroyed.
My point, I guess, is that everything wrong with Kennedy (except the sexual immorality) was even wronger with FDR, so it didn't start with JFK
I am of the opinion that it was one of the largest factors regarding why the nation is in such a mess currently.
Not only did it empower Democrats, it created a massive criminal class, because when women don't need husbands to support them, Men don't stick around. They go make more babies with other women.
Many of these fatherless children grow up into feral juveniles who evolve into adult criminals with no respect for the law or anyone else.
The cost far exceeds just the dollar cost. The Social cost is horrible too.
All downhill after that!
No but in the age of Television it was about who looked good.
Imagine Television in FDRs time, he sure wouldn’t have been able to cover up his paralysis like he was able to.
Now JFK set the standard for what women want in a candidate, good-looking (well at least they thought he was). And in the early days of Television he became the first political “Rock Star.”
That pretty much sums it up
He didn't actually misspell it. He was handed a card with it misspelled. He was a judge at a spelling bee, and that is how it was spelled on the card he was given.
I actually suspect he was set up by some Democrat Union Goon member of the teacher's Union.
Momma Grizzlies love sheep.
Just curious—why do you feel women shouldn’t be allowed to vote?
.
I’d be fine with women voting, if they were the head of household. I think it should be one household = one vote, and if there is a husband in the house, it goes to him unless he’s somehow incapacitated. Let the husband and wife fight among themselves over who they’ll vote for :)
Women were granted suffrage, and we’ve all been suffering ever since. Stop the suffraging now!
Valid point. Television and photography can be used/abused to either enhance or detract from someone's appearance in a manner utterly unrelated to facts.
“Women voting is a local and State matter.. “
Not for federal elections, it isn’t.
[ I was getting ready to post the identical thing. Totally agree on both points!
only land owners. ]
Or only Tax payers who receive no federal aid.
Because isn’t receiving money from the government then voting for government a conflict of interest?
But he did get pilloried for it, and it had nothing really to do with reality.
